this is a real brain buster! help is needed

Recommended Posts

ok so i was doing a rebuild and had some issues with a leaking case. resealed the case and did a leak down test and passed with flying colors. throw the motor back in and i was still having issues. im kicing and its not starting. i have spark and the plugs are wet. well anwyays i pulled the plugs and poured some gas down the holes and kciked and it fired up. ran nice and strong but once let off the throttle it dies. try kicking it again and it wont fire unless u repeat the process. we did it again and it fired up and this time we noticed it was runnin on one cylinder. spark was shooting out from the boot and all over th head like the spark wasnt bing delivered into the combustion chamber.i thought maybe it was a bad plug but we switched them and was still on one same side. then i switched the wires around and it started sparking out of both boots. it is really weird i cant think what would cause it. its a new coil pack and the wires are fresh and so are the plugs. its very puzzling any ideas?

also it wont fire without pouring gas down the holes. is this cause of that spark issue? seems like if i fix the spark it might run correctly. cause when it fires it runs great until u let off the throttle. any ideas is much appreicated.

i really dont think its carbs. they are cleaned and adjusted right and synced so please dont tell me carbs lol. i dont think that would cause spark to shoot out like crazy in a weird fashion.

I assume they are stock carbs. Is the choke tube connected between the carbs? Are the slides in correctly? I just had to ask.

not stock carbs 28mm pwk

choke crossover???? only thing i have is the dreaded boost bottle but there arent ripped or cracked boots but i will be getting rid of that soon. and yes slides are in correctly they can only go in one way.

hey man im pretty new to this site and the banshee, but i had this same problem with my banshee, it would only start with a prime through the plugs and wouldn't idle after i let off the gas, and the choke tube that connects both carbs were missing, i replaced it and adjusted the idle screw and she fired up and ran perfect,, but mine never had the same spark issue as yours,,, hope you get her runnin right dude,, best of luck!!

so these should have a choke tube? i mean the choke is seperate on each carb. i dont understand why it would need a choke tube between them since they arent stockers. but i need this spark issue fixed before i even worry bout the priming issue lol

how did you clean the pilots? Did you adjust the air screws to no more than .5 turns out? You obviously are not getting fuel in the engine.

As far as the spark issue. Reterminate means cut ends off, re........end them. High voltage leaks when there is a breach in the insulation.

make sure you get some good plugs, not that champion or autolite crap, those like to break and leak spark. ngk is what you want......the "8"s..............and, weak spark will change the jetting, so fix that first.

ok so i fixed the plug issue. good spark going all the way through the plugs now. but i have still had to prime it through the spark plug holes. one side exhaust was warm other side was cool. so where do i begin? i already cleaned these damn things a million times. carb cleaner and used a small wire in the jet holes to make sure no junk was in them and float heights are good for sure. no idea on the jetting. so any helpful advice is a good one.
