banshee4587
hi i have a 2001 yamaha banshee with 392cc athena cylinders and pistons with 34mm mikuni flat side carbs and cant seem to get them to jet right.elevation about 1400feet. i have went from 280 jets to 400 jets and every time i put the jets in i test rode it and it does the same thing everytime. it starts first kick has 140 compresion on each cylinder. it starts off great no bogging but as soon as you hit the throttle it cuts out and has no power but never dies. if you hammer on it in first it hits the power band for just a second but as soon as you shift it just kind of bogs. i currently have 340 jets in it now and think its close to the right jets. anyone might have any suggestions on what i should do next? broncbob
Sounds kinda big on the mains......what do the plugs look like?
mopar1rules
i don't think you're lean on the mains. my buddy has 380's in his shee, that is bored .090" over, ported, and is running tm28 mikuni flatslides.
banshee4587
Sounds kinda big on the mains......what do the plugs look like? a light brown about what its supose to be but the little hook on the plug is pretty dark. like its running really hot. i dont know if its a carb problem or not. i was told i might have to mess with the timing from a local shop but everyone i have talked to said that it shouldn't make to much of a difference. and when i had the 300 jets in was when it was running the worse cut out pretty bad and had very little power. would only go about 5 to 10 mph like not getting any gas. broncbob
Does it have a adjustable timing plate? If so, what is it set as? What fuel, what oil and what ratio are you running?
springer
i run the 34 flats and had some trouble myself. i did some searching on here and found a few people with about the same advice. everyone was recommending 50 pilots. i am running a 30 pilot and 320 mains. just had it dyno'ed last weekend and had a real strong, smooth power curve. it was mentioned several times that a new needle jet was needed. i never changed mine, but maybe that is part of your problem. it comes stock with a Q-2, everything from P-6 to Q-0 was suggested. i found a place to get decent priced jets for them if you want it, let me know and i will try to relocate the website again. springer
here is the address to the website. sometimes, i have to navigate back from the beginning of the mikuni page because for some reason the needle jets wont show up from the direct link to them. i'll give you both, might take a little lookin, but i'm sure they are all there (not just a couple sizes which is what shows up for me sometimes). http://www.powerpacequipment.com/catalog_brand.asp?brand=229 http://www.powerpacequipment.com/eshopprod_cat_5429-28439_brand_229-183-282-286_product_705021.GENUINE_MIKUNI_NEEDLE_JETS.htm
