Squish and Compression

I will be running about 192 exhaust duration, stock head.

It seems like .040" is a good safe number as far as squish goes from what I've read...I'm not sue what the squish is from the factory, If I had to guess aroubd .090?"?.

My question is if I lower my squish by shaving the head and not touching the combustion chamber, will it send my compression too high for pump gas or does it usually wind up being safe for pump gas.

you'll be fine cutting .040" off the stock head, and running 93 octane, w/an exh port that high.

 

you'll probably end up cutting .040" off, to get .040" squish, as i had to cut .030" off my head to give me .050" squish. that was w/a .010" thick head gasket and OEM base gaskets. i also used moose racing gaskets and had the same squish, +or- .001". can't remember the thickness of the OEM and moose base gaskets.

You really should be measuring things thought. I get the impression you plan to just bolt up and run. You really need to invest in a caliper at a minimum before playing with head dims. That is a good way to get in trouble. Know what you got, then work from there.

I actually have a set of calipers.

 

I wanted to make sure that I didn't measure, realize that I needed to cut .050, cut and have to run race gas. If this was a possibility I would put some funds aside to rechamber.

Because you are only facing the head (leaving all kinds of power on the table), this just become simple geometry. Measure your head and subtract what you remove and you will know exactly where the squish and volume will end up.
