You are talking about Hinson's spring-tension basket assembly, correct?

I have one in my 421 cub. Was it really necessary, no... Was it worth the money, yes...

Thats exactly what I am talking about. So another 600 huh...... Fackin Banshee taking my money. Thanks for the help

There are a couple of advantages to using the spring-tension basket/gear assembly...

There will never be a need to screw with cushions ever again (I know the mess those damn cushions make when one or more decides to grenade), and the springs are much more durable and will also absorb the power delivery more consistently.

Just a basket, inner hub, pressure plate, I agree, no need to buy Hinson anything. A Magnum basket is just as good and 1/2-2/3 the price. I use a stock inner hub and a stock pressure plate with my basket/gear assembly.

If a person is going to spend $375 on gears and $150+ on a basket, jumping to the basket/gear assembly at $600 is not that much more money (if they are still $600).

Either set-up works fine, so It really comes down to what you want...

Thats the issue. i bought one of Jeff's Magnum baskets, which in my opinion are just as good as teh Hinson one. Only issue I see are those mickey mouse bushings being a factor. The springed hinson looks like it can take quite a beating and keep delivering power..

Well, loco runs a Magnum and straights. He says it has worked fine, and I hardly doubt he pussyfoots his engine. It would probably be safe to say that more people run a standard billet basket set-up of some kind over the springer basket...

Just bought the hinson setup just to be safe. Whatever a feww hundred more for some piece of mind isnt that bad

guaranteed. i straight up beat on my motors. my 10mm cub was bulletproof. after 4 years, my magnum basket still looks new. its now in my new BIG motor. seems to be working quite well.

After destroying a TZ bearing on the PTO side of a crank (after 3 years) I'm going to pick up straight cuts when money can afford it.

Do you need it? No...as others have said.

It is good insurance....

nooooo waaayyyyyyy... dave going to straight cuts?! :P

Yep...as I can afford them. Nice thing is the whole thing doesn't have to come apart to put 'em on...:)

After 4 years my Magnum basket from Jeff still looks great as well. A little discoloring where the plates rub on the ears...but that's to be expected.

A year on my 4 mil cub and 3 years on my 10 mil...and my motor has a LOT of passes on it!

I don't have straight cuts on my 10mill and have no problems but then again i rarely ride mine lol I remember talking to Dave when building my motor and pretty much said i really don't need it but it's good insurance. You go any bigger on your motor i would consider you going that route but totally up to you if you want to run it.
