Tire question

Recommended Posts

I've been looking at maxxis razer2 or holeshot HD. Which is a better tire or is there a better tire than either of those. I do alot of trail riding... Mostly packed dirt but some sand too. I already have paddels for dunes so that's not an issue. I want either a good 20 or 21 inch tire, leaning more towards 21s though. Let me know what you guys think.

Well as for the maxxis they tend to wear slower than the HD's. The HD hook better. I have the HD on my 4poker and the wear on them is starting to show more than my Maxxis. I dont know much about the Razr2 but im sure the wear is the same.

Loco on here swears by the Honda atv tire, I ended up trying a set from one of my riding buddies and surprisingly they hook up really really well. After my tires wear out on my 4poker and my shee i think i may be changing to the ohtsu tires. They are cheaper and hook well for trail riding and hardpack shit. They are on the F.A.S.T website check em out

Thanks man. I'll definetly have to check them out. Yeah I had a set of the first maxxis and they did seem to wear pretty quick. Now I studded them and use them for my ice tires. I've been running a set of black waters that came with it when I bought it and they don't seem to wear too fast but they don't really hook that great either. I only weight like 135lb so I need all the traction I can get. Plus if those ohtsu are cheaper that's a good thing. Both those HDs and the razors aren't to danm cheap.

Agreed, I rode a set of HD's on my 450 and when they wore down i switched to Maxxis. I now have twice the ride time on the Maxxis and still plenty of tread. Hookup feels the same to me, and i also ride mostly trails.

I'd reccomend some regular maxxis razr tires. they aint as aggressive as the razr2's and are easier to slide with and stuff. I have a set that has been "grooved" where they took a grinder and cut notchs out the center of the tread knobs which lets the knobs flex more and makes it grab more on hardpack. not sure how good these tires will do in sand though...

Thanks guys. I really want to try those razed2. I've never thought about grinding the lugs. I have a set already of the regular razors that I just studded and turned into ice tires. Maybe I'll try it on them while I'm saving for new tires.

any razr tire is a waste of money. why spend a fortune on some tires and then have to "grind" on them to get them to hook? sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

I would never buy a tire to grind it... I already have some that are just sitting around that I use for ice tires. I rarely ride in the winter so I figured I would try it on those.

its no different then cutting out every other row of lugs on a set of kenda knarly's, your still modifying the tread to suit your specific needs. why buy a brand new set of tires to cut the lugs out of?

and just a little more info on those tires, I bought em from a local gncc racer for 25$ a tire, no holes and only a few races on em, already had the knobs "grooved". now if I bought a brand new set of razr tires for 60-70$ a tires, most likily I wouldnt be cutting on em with a grinding disc.

I tried that shit and doesn't do a damn thing. I did not notice any bit more traction. Cutting every other lug maybe yes but why go through all that hassle when you can just buy a cheaper and better hookin tire.
