JSHEE34756
Just curious, Want to know so I can stock up early with parts when its time, Whats some of the early symptoms before a rebuild is required? What oil is giving you the longest hours of ride time? I am curious to know, Even know 2 strokes are without doubt the only way to go for dirt bikes and atv's sadly we all know they eventually need rebuilt. I am just happy to rebuild a 2 stroke anyday before I would touch a 4 stroke. And when a 4 stroke goes, LOL, You better just throw your atv away. SNTBANSHEE
+1 Alot of factors to take into consideration. How hard do you ride, what filter do you run, what oil, dune, play or drag, ect...I put together a blaster for my wife three years ago and part of my spring routine is to check compression. Three years and no change.

Sandfrk33
My bike is a 93. I bought it in 03. Never touched. Stock everything. Had to rebuild it in 2006 from a broken ring. Just tore the motor apart to build a 4 mil and the cylinders still had cross hatch marks. I ride my bike hard. In a good 3 day trip to the dunes, I'll go through 15 to 20 gallons of gas. I am using klotz techniplate now and going to use 5 gallons next fuel tank with amsoil dominator since I got a bottle for free. I don't beat my quad either, The air filter is a oil soaked foam type which I am told is the best for highest HP but alot of dirt can still get past it especially if not kept wet enough. Also, I got some kinda blue coolant in my radiator which likes to dripout alot all over my right pipe when I come to a stop after riding hard. It kinda sucks buying somthing used cause you never know how or what was used on it for sure, But used also gets you the best deal if you know your engines. The link above thanks, Sure hope I get more than 30 hours. Which I should no doubt. Juding by the input, It would seem the 350 is more reliable than my honda 125 I used to have yeras ago, That sucker was 45 hours new top end time. Newtome03shee
I have never had to rebuild a 4 stroke. I had a few ATC's back in the day and ran them for years and never even really maintained them. I will agree with most of the post on here. It is certainly on how you ride it and how you maintain it. My Yamaha dealer had made it clear that the most important thing you can do for a two stroke is WARM IT UP!!! Give it a good five or so minute warm up and then take a slow spin around go through the gears and it will last for years that is along with keeping the air filter cleaned and a good two stroke oil. You probably won't have to rebuild a 4 stroke for yeras and years, All depends if the engine is subjected to oil starvation and overheating, 4 strokes run way hotter. My brother in law locked his 4x4 honda 350 up from overheating and another guy locked his raptor up both heat related, the raptor was more due to him doing stunts wheelies and crap starving the oil pickup alot, his bearing upon teardown looked horrible, ruined crank connecting rod warped. But none the less 4 stroke will eventually go and when they do just toss them. The parts are astronomical in price. Speaking of the air filter, I don't really care for the brittle oil foam filter I have and I think I am going to switch to one of them cone k&n type filters. This foam filter if you rub your finger across it pieces of it come apart. I do warm it up though. The seller told my it has aluminum pistons and to always warm it for 5 minutes. midlifecrisis
Those new KTMs have a ridiculously low rebuild requirement. Like 50 hours or something crazy like that. One of the guys who works for me also has a sponsored ride from KTM, those things are like $15000.
wacko2000
Just like all the guys stated above. Every bike will be different, depending on how its cared for. My bike is a 2000, first rebuild was in 06-07 Still had 108psi, but i was itching to go fast so i had it rebuilt.
JSHEE34756
Well, I have been getting pretty over comfortable with this beauty the past few days, Its addicting and I can't get off it. I have the 99, 97 onward they have a rev limiter so you can't over rev it and blow it up right? It just seems to scream so much higher than what I remember my cr125 used to sound. And with no instruments to read, Its slightly uncomfortable not to know, I think a site sells a aftermaret info cluster that bolts to the handle bar neck. I can't remeber who though.
