Crank questions.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Once again, I have to thank you all for the help. I have bought the Vitos crank from an ebay seller here in Ontario, so itll be better for shipping. Its a standard stroke PC 350 for $160 shipped, so I think I did quite well. The only other question I had, was what other parts should I be buying from our vitos distributor for the crank, when it gets here, so I can just put it in, and back together?

You will need ALL the gaskets and seals for the engine and transmission, you will also neeed the lockwashers for the clutch basket and countershaft sprocket. The rest of what you need depends on how much money you want to spend. Since you will be so far into it, you should look at the clutch basket for play, a wore out bushing on the kick idler gear, a sloppy claw on the shift shaft, and check or replace all the bearings. You could grind the shift star or buy a modded one , you could mod the shift shaft if it is good or get a new modded one from FAST, you should probably put in a pancake bearing in the clutch. You could also put in a billet impeller in the water pump, do the seal and bearing while you are in there. The list is endless, I have owned my Banshee for over 20 years and I still can find things to spend money on.

Does the vito's crank have hot rod connecting rods? I don't think they do. Hot rods are the best connecting rods you can get. I would rather have hot rods. IMO

Thanks guys,

I am going to hold off on the breaking down of the crank I just bought, as I want to make sure this thing is actually going to run, hell Im in over $1000, and Ive never even heard it run? Im going to do the crank seals and bearings for sure though obviously!

my 2 cents. definitely watch the cranks on ebay there are some cheap imports in both stock and 4 mil stroke out there. Buy a Hot Rods or Vitos from reputable seller with good feedback.

I would definitely look at the kick idler bushing slop and buy a replacement bushing from FAST if needed or new gear if you don't have the tools to press the bushing into your original gear but they are a little pricey. Take a look at the washer and snap ring also. I had a machine that broke the idler snap ring and made a mess out of the trans.

Don't get to worried about doing all the mods. These engines are pretty darn tuff if you keep the air filters clean and run good fuel and oil. Especially in near stock form with only pipes and filter type mods! Good luck!!

Why would you break down the crank you just bought? Was it used or new? If it was a new crank, you don't need to break it down, just get it trued and welded if it is not already, it should only cost $100. If it was used, I would not put it in without a complete tear down and inspection and rebearing and trued and welded. The only thing you can tell for sure about anassembled crank is what the clearances are. A bearing can look fine and fail right away and when a crank lets go it can damage alot of other parts. It costs less in the long run to do it right the first time.
