Bansheeboy28usa
I was riding my '01 Banshee recently when the clutch just quit working... went to shift back down into 1st from second and it was gone. no pressure at all. tryed everything when cousin who runs banshee's suggested it might be the clutch release lever. I was trying to take the clutch release lever out of the case to inspect it and followed all the directions loosend the adjuster out 2 turns and tryed to pull it out but it is stuck. it will pull out about a 1/2 inch or so then stuck. cant get it to budge. not sure if the clutch rod just is not letting it go or what.... tried getting a magnet and pulling the rod out but it wont move either.... any suggestions?!?! starting to think we may have to split the case... bansheesandrider
If you can't pull the rod out with a magnet, then you are going to have to split the case.Did you remove the pressure plate and the ball that is between the adjuster and the pushrod? If the ball is stuck, then you have "welded the ball", if none of it will come out, you will have to split the cases, replace all the damaged parts and put it back together. You will also need a pancake bearing to prevent this from happening again. Make sure the lever and tranny shaft are not damaged also. Good Luck. Bansheeboy28usa
Ya thats what i was thinking... yes we pulled the adjuster and ball out just fine. but when trying to get the release lever out of the clutch we put a magner down the hole to try and get that rod out but it appears stuck... was hoping i was not going to have to split the cases but it looks like that is the only option.. thanks for the advice and help
VegasJeff
I just did the same thing last weekend and the ball came out ,but the shaft was stuck.I took 1/4in socket extension and put it in the shaft and gave it a good whack with the hammer and it broke the weld, then the magnet pulled it out. I just had to do all this to, what causes this? is it avoidable? is there any thing I can do to fix this before it happens again?

A pancake bearing on the internal clutch adjuster will prevent this. That being said, I don't have a pancake bearing in any of my bikes and I have NEVER had a problem, which I attribute to the Klotz Flex Drive 30 oil I use in my tranny instead of the ATF or other oil alot of people on here use. I have an 89 that I bought new and I ride and my wife has had a 96 and a 97 and we have not had any balls weld themselves running this oil.
