westboundmack
Thinking about getting a 421 Cheetah kit. But there are a few things im worried about. I want to se up my bike for 50/50 trail/sand riding. I definately don't want to build a straight drag bike, I just want it to be flat out fast no matter what im doing. With that being said: 1) What size carbs would run the best on a 421? 2) Can I run with my stock swingarm? As I stated above I still want to trail ride, so I still need it to handle. Thanks in advance...
dajogejr
Get your stock cylinders ported...you will be much happier. Do a search on this. The general consensus is Cubs are not trail friendly. On a good running 421 cub, a stock swingarm will not cut it. You'll either be frying the tires or pointed skyward...no inbetween. Cubs have a lightswitch BANG power band. You either have ALL the power or none. They are not very linear. When I first built my 4 mil cub, it was on race gas, stock carbs and T5 pipes. That's about as nuetered as you can make a cub. It still made 85HP and the power hit like a ton of bricks. I would rather see you spend the money on a well built 4 mil stock cylinder motor. It would be MUCH more user friendly for the trails and still have some ass in it to go out racing around the dunes.
locogato11283
agreed. you can build a 4mm stock cylinder motor to do everything you want. any of the sponsors on HQ can build you a nice stout 4mm motor. i have ridden bikes by a few of them and they run hard. westboundmack
I hear you! i just want to be able to whoop all the 4 strokes my friends an family have, as I am the only one with a shee. lol...the main 2 being a built yfz450 & 450R. Thats why I was asking about the cub motor. So how much power (ballpark) can a motor like that make? Meaning the 4mm with stock cylinders...granted its built right. Thanks for your help fellas!!! Profilact
I have been pondering the same thing while I am waiting on my cylinders to get ported: Should I just end it and go Cub? I dont drag race and there are no dunes around here. I have read here for some years now and value strongly the opinion of dajogejr and loco. Guess I'll still be waiting. locogato11283
i had an old 4mm stock cylinder motor that made 77hp. my brother had a 4mm stock cylinder motor from FAST that made right at 80hp. they were both running ass bikes. you can achieve everything you want with a stock cylinder 4mm setup. you will still be able to dune or trail ride it and be able to turn on the speed when youre wanting to beat on those pesky 4 stroke riders. build it right with keihin 33 or 35mm pwk carbs, v force reeds, pod filters, noss head and domes, pipes and timing and you will tear up those 4 strokes. cobrabc1993
When i was having my bike dyno"d last year in oklahoma, i watched two different 4mill, stock cyinders, With dune/ drag ports, done by Jeff at F.A.S.T. ( FARMAND SAND TOYS) get dynoed..... They both spun the rollers on the dyno to 80horsepower..... One bike had cpi pipes and the other ran shearer pipes....... Both had 35mm carbs, one had mikuni's, the other had pwk's.... I would'nt of believed it until i sat there and watched it..... They sounded awesome...... Those bikes easily handled the yfz 450s and the 450r''s out on the drag strip...... The only 450s you have to watch out for when you go 4mill, are the ones on nitrous and turboed....... Im with the other guys, if you still trail ride, a good 4mill, done by the builders on this site, will be all you need, and it will still be very reliable to you out on the trails!! dajogejr
I think Kevin and Jeff (HJR and FAST) are both site sponsors more than capable of putting a healthy 70ish HP or more to a set of 4 mil ported stockers. Keep in mind...once you get up in the ponies...you need to look at EVERYTHING...like clutch, transmission, gearing, tires. I just can't see that kind of power handling a stock length swinger very well...if it does, you're not using all the power of the motor. I have a list of suspension & drivetrain items that are going to have to be upgraded. as far as the swing arm, it kind of brings me back to the begining of the post. what length swing arm allows you to put the power down, but still handle??? tundish2800
I run a 4mil stock cylinder bike. I had flo tek do my port work and the bike screams.I have not had it on the dyno so i can't give you any numbers. I have seen hjr bikes run and they are no joke. Save the money and get your stock cylinders done. You can get a used 4mil crank on here for a good price. As for a swinger I would only go with a plus 4 if you want to stay in the trails. Profilact
Not trying to thread jack but my setup will be: 4 mill 115 rod - hot rods trued and welded Dune\Play ported cylinders - by a site sponsor 32 mm mikuni tm series flatslides boyesen rad valve - 3/8 reed spacers Site sponsor clutch vitos hemi head 2 with 20 cc stroker cut domes Toomey T5's + 4 timing stock gearing\tire size and a bent frame in a pear tree... I think it will be sufficient to smoke any 4 strokers I have come across in my area. They never wanted to race me before, and I dont ask to race them. I have a friend with an 08 raptor 700 and I was already beating him with bolt ons.
