jimp1967
I have a '99 banshee and I bought carb kits and everything in the kit is right BUT the needle ( that goes through the slide ) the one in the kit is 1/4" shorter than my stock ones. My carbs are 26mm Mikuni carbs. My needles are 2 5/16 long and the new ones are 2 1/16, I want to make sure I put the right needles back in. Can someone tell me which needle the stock carbs take? GrMeyer
use the stock ones. I hate crap kits. The only thing i ever use out of them are the orings, gaskets and the new float needle and seat. If the stock ones are not bent or chipped or what ever. I would just use them. People on here can get you in the ball park of jetting with stock needles. My jet needles are not bent so I will go back with them. I ended up putting 320 mains, 27.5 pilots and 1 1/2 turns off seat on the air mixture screws. Pod filters, +4 plate, Toomey T5s, Cool head, trail port, vf3's, tors delete, Sea level,65 deg. Jimmy

Jimmy Sounds like your on the right page for a stating point on jetting. Just make sure your carbs are synced, or you will have one shitty bottom end. Just make sure your carbs are synced, or you will have one shitty bottom end. Yea, I bought a sync tool ( snail ) so I can sync them up. When I bought it a couple of weeks ago on the test ride it had very shitty bottom end and run hard in the power band. When I went to pull the carbs off to check jetting and change float needle and seats I noticed they had the slides switched and the air mixture screws were way off. The left carb was 2 off seat and the right was 1/4 turn off seat. Anyways I finished redoing the carbs last night and installing idle rpm screws from the tors delete, so I will keep you guys posted when I fire it back up. Thanks. Jimmy I noticed on my stock jet needles they have 6 grooves, the needles in the kit have 5. The needles in the kit appear to have Y151 stamped on them. I'm thinking the wrong needles are in my carbs, can someone measure a stock needle off a vm26 mm mikuni banshee carb and post it so I can be sure? Thanks Jimmy
AKheathen
no, that's not a stock needle. the stock one has 5 grooves and looks stainless with a pretty steep taper. the kit needles i had were longer, and had a more gradual taper, which means it will be leaner on top or richer on bottom. since you don't have stock ones, just compare the 2 different needles and figure where you need to richen or lean it in the throttle range by running one set in the middle, or 3rd from tip setting at first. i would try the shorter one first........oh, and i believe the stock is 5n something, if i remember right. I found a guy with a stock Banshee carb and he pulled the needle and measured it for me, and it measured 53mm and had 5N7 stamped on it. The needles in my kit are 53mm also so i'm putting those in and starting in the 3rd groove. I hope the taper on them are right but I should be able to adjust up or down to get it right.
