air box v.s pods

ok im tring to figure out if i should go with pods or stick to my modified stock air box....i ride a lot of coal hills, dirt and dusty open trails and curently ride with an open airbox but was thinking about using pods cause of ther increased air but only if the protection is good enough, but affraid of ruining my motor. anyone have any insight on this? is the extra air flow worth it? or maybe even a CFM Aluminum Airbox Air Box....anyone ever try these...do they increase air flow?

I've always ran a airbox, even with a air box with no lid water still finds its way in there, does it stay cleaner than running pods.. YES

But i switched to PODS when I bought 35's

I really didnt wanna be bothered with those adapters between the carbs.

Also jettings and getting the carbs on/off is a breeze.

I do miss running a air box bc Im always worried about water/mud etc

running a air box is almost like piece of mind, You aren't going to see a HUGE difference switching to pods, so if you are mud crazy and usually find the water and wet shit, I would keep the air box

im not mud crazy by any means but once and a while we find some wet areas and if im not gaining any significant power then id rather go with the piece of mind....how about those CFM Aluminum Airboxs. are they any good or same as a stock airbox?

 

I have a set of k&n pods with outerwears and never had any problem with water or mud. I have water skimmed at the dunes and the air filters are in a location that they do not get that much water splash on them. I have had my banshee covered in mud and the air filters are still relatively clean.

if you are runnin the pro flow setup with the lid off i would see no reason to run pods, unless you physicaly cant fit the box in there or your running bigger carbs, intake or reed spacers. This is why i ditched my box.

I agree.Dont waste your money on a aluminum box. if you have stock carbs the proflow kit allows you to take of your air box lid and it is nice.

I waited on pods and ran the the airbox w/o lid for a while for the same reason. When I put pods on and re-jetted, it was like I removed a cork.

 

I still have my airbox setup and can swap it over for wet or muddy conditions, but have yet to put it back in...I'd rather just avoid the nasty areas to keep the pods on.

 

Also makes carb adjustments ten times easier.

well im upgrading to 35mm carbs with the billit intake so that was the reasoning behind my Q's. but i think if i can modify the stock air box i will or if not then maybe get the aluminum one if that will work and if all else fails ill go with the pods

Save money get pods you wont regret it.

lol ...i may just do that.....guess i have to start searching for what i need....what size/length pods and any brackets needed

 

I have 33s which i believe are the same od. I use a k&n with a 2-1/4"id 5" long and a 10deg bend in the filter for clearance reasons and make sure you get outerwears if you get k&ns

ive had issues with pods, primarly trying to get my 38mm carbs with filters to clear my paul turner silencers. ive sucked more thing into my motor than im willing to admit to with pods. when i called duncan racing and asked them what i should do thier anwser was simple. keep you air box. i was alittle disapointed to hear that but he began to explain to me that the way the banshee was designed. the placement of the airbox provides a better flow of air to the engine vs having pods. he made alot of good points, the main one was pods dont direct air into your engine and when traveling 80mph foward the air passes over your filters and not into the engine the yamaha had orignaled planed for
