petenorth
Me and some friends are thinking about driving out to Little Sahara to ride from Eastern Ky. Can somebody offer some help with these questions? I have been to the Imperial sand dunes and had a great time. Just wanting to take my own quads this time. 1. How many square miles is Little Sahara? It doesnt look that big on google earth. 2. What could I expect compared to Imperial? I know its not as big, but... 3. Will/Do you need paddle tires? Thanks for the help!! springer
Well I have never been to Imperial so I can't comment on that comparison. But, I have been to St. Anthony in ID and Little Sahara in UT and will say there is an obvious size difference. With the bigger places, it seems like you can get lost for days and continue to find new parts to ride. With Waynoka, you can cover pretty much everything once in just a few hours. I only have to drive 4 hours to get there, but I think it is definately worth it. It has a little bit of everything as far as terrain goes. Fairly big, open dunes, lots of trails, some nice trail climbing areas and the drag scene is usually pretty decent. Summary: pretty well rounded place to have lots of fun. Usually pretty good atmosphere at camp as well. Normally don't have many problems with rangers, etc unless its an event weekend.
stclark816
1. 1,450 acres of rideable sand. 2. Never been to Imperial 3. You don't absolutely need paddle tires, but I wouldnt ride there without them. I think it all depends on how much you like dunes. Hills seem to range between 25-75 feet tall, not steep. I've been several times, but it's only 5-6 hours away from me. If i had to drive more than 6 hours, I wouldnt go. I'm not a big big fan of dunes though. It isnt anything special IMO. I usually have more fun camping there than riding.
bbcmudtruck
I don't know if I would drive 16hrs unless you plan on staying for three or four days. I would go down on a thursday so you get a good camping spot and drive back on a monday. Try to go on a somewhat busy weekend and you will have a blast.
