Alex29573
can anyone please tell me if these will work and what do i do with the nipple coming out of the bottom of the float bowl? also, what about the other nipple i put an arrow on? and where i put in the fuel hose from the gas tank, does it matter that these carbs have the nipple facing down? GrMeyer
Is this for a single carb set up? Or for a stroker motor?
Alex29573
it would be 2 of these carbs on a 421 stroker cub i was running TM28mm carbs on the motor and then playing around tried out my brother's 35mm TMX carbs and the difference was HUGE. just revving in idle you can tell a difference. I'm looking into 39mm PWK because that is what the builder told me to get.
GrMeyer
Well then I dont see why they wouldnt work. I have been trying to find some 30mm carbs off of a sled for some time. But living in Phx doesnt help me one bit.
sheefreak
They are prolly a pumper carb w/the inlets turned down. I am not sure what the nipples are w/o having the carbs in front of me.
Alex29573
if they are pumper carbs, would they have floats inside? these have floats. thanks everyone for the replies!
Blewbyu
Those are defenetely pumper carbs, you would have to buy a pump and put a pulse line in your cylinder, but they will work on your bike. just cap off that other vent on the side and buy the nuts that come on the 39pwk gravity fed bowls and replace those with the ones on your bowls. Obviously you will have to jet accordingly...
Alex29573
thanks man, i think i will just look for a regular set of gravity fed PWKs!! how can i tell if they are pumper or gravity fed carbs? J-Madd
thanks man, i think i will just look for a regular set of gravity fed PWKs!! how can i tell if they are pumper or gravity fed carbs? By re-reading Blewbyu's post j/k. THe fuel inlets are pointed down on the pumpers. You'll also need to put some chokes in those.
Alex29573
ok cool thanks
sheefreak
There are also pumper carbs that have the inlets facing up. You can tell the difference by the size of the fuel inlet. I am not sure what the sizes are but the inlets on pumper carbs are smaller than gravity fed.
superfastyfz450driver
snowmobile carbs use a very small neede and seat set up like on a mikuni tmx set up for a sped will use a size 1.5 needle and seat but for gravity feed your going to need a size 3.5 in my oppinion if the inlet port for the fuel line was angled down or up for gravity feed wouldnt make a difference it was probably done like that to route the fuel lines on the sled properly, th nipple on the bottom of the float bowls is for whats called a water trap on most sleds they use a chunk of 3/8ths clear hose roughly 2-3 inchs long with a plug in the end , what this does is since water is heavier then fuel it will get trapped in there rather then lay in the bowl, periodically you should drain them to make sure everything is ok
Alex29573
can you run a pump fed carb by gravity?? i understand you probably cant run a gravity fed carb with a pump because that type of carb is not set up for any pressure. but how about vice versa? sheefreak
You definately cannot run a pump fed carb w/o pump on alky, and I don't think I would chance it on gas either. The opening is so small it will not fill the bowls fast enough when you are running wide open. A pump is not hard to setup and a mikuni pump is like $60 new.
