blowit
when you convert to alcohol do you need to change out the domes. and is there anything else that needs to be done besides cabs and plugs that needs to be changed Head, carbs, fuel lines, timing. Those are your main areas of concentration. I am not sure where you are in your state of tune but as of lately, I have been discouraging people of switching to alky unless they have plenty of tuning skills. Alky can be finicky, bitchy, and a real PITA for some users. Most that use it are either running on the strip and their bike is drained down at the end of the day, or those who have plenty of experience with it. Personally, all my bikes run it but it can really suck dune riding when you have to be concerned with getting to fuel before you run out. E85 - I have yet the see a setup that I am truly happy with. Too much variance at the pump to keep the bike dialed in. Brandon
tundish2800
I went to alky last year and i have not had any problems tuning it. I'm not an expert by any means. There are some people that like domes cut for alky, They are cut at a different angle.I run gas domes( i have been laid off for 15 months trying to save money right now). The big question is what kind of thing are done to your bike?? Pipes carbs timing?? And what are you going to use the bike for?
BigRed350x
Alky likes higher compression and more timing. (in most cases) Most builders will recommend different domes for running alky, but if you are low on funds or just trying it out you can certainly run gas domes. The basics for alky... Drill your gas cap. Pingel valve. Carbs set up for alky/meth. Billet bowls (depends on what you do with the bike). Higher compression. More Timing. Good Fule Lines/Vent lines. I run methanol in all my bikes, even the dune bikes. I don't really consider it a pain to tune, but I've been using it for a few years now in the dunes. We run it really rich and safe. I love it and gas setups scare me after running meth for a few years. lol!
chetgoff
so what kind of carbs do you need? and how much compresson is good I have 155 psi. I would like to try to switch to run meth.
RadarRacing
As long as you know you will need to purge your bike , keep your alky fresh and don't let moisture get into it etc then try it. You will see most gains with it due to being able to run 175-190 lbs of compression and a couple more degrees of timing. If you don't do any of that you will see very little gain. I run the same plugs BR8ES but with a .018 gap , a lot more timing , and lots more compression. If you have a friend who can help you that knows alky it can be tuned in 5 mins especially if you have lectrons.
firebanshee
The only thing i don't like about alky is having to worry about having enough fuel. When i go out to the hill to race in the dunes i carry more fuel in my rhino, other than that i LOVE it.I run PWKs for carbs with adjustable power valves so i can ajust my jetting with a turn of a screw.
