Pismo

Hey guys, I'm planning a trip to pismo in early may. Never been there to ride and would like some opinions.

First off, where do you camp at? I have a 2wd truck and 30' 5th wheel and hate to get stuck. How close are the campgrounds to the dunes? Is there different places or is it one camp site.

Next question is how big is the riding area? Should I take my bike and rail, or just the bike. My buggy is fun, but is it worth taking with me? Its a 4 and a half hour drive and I hate to take the buggy unless I can get some use out of it.

Let me know what you think. Thanks

I just went for the first time last weekend. And we camped between markers 5 and 6. But since u have 2 wheel drive u should probably stop right after 2 which is I beloved where campgrounds first start. And the camping is sort of a free for all, anywhere along the beach and even into the dunes. As far as the riding goes, I would say it depends on the size of rail. The whole place is full of what looks like smooth rollers but then they just drop off without notice so be careful. If u have a little rail that would probably be fun but I can't imagine a big Guy being to good for there. The place is full of rzr's and rhinos if that helps. That is my .02

I live near Pismo and go there quite a bit you camp right in the sand !, Its gunna be tricky with 2 wheel drive but its doable! make sure you check a tide table and try to get there as close to low tide as possible !! very important , as it is easy to drive on the wet hard packed sand, after you pay and drive down the ramp pull over and air down to 10 lbs all 4 tires ! try to select a spot not to far from the ocean but far enough away that so the water dont swamp your camp at high tide . pick a spot a nd get a good run , and it really helps to stop on the hard pack and un load the toys first !

find a nieghbor at a near by camp with abig 4x4 and make a new friend share a few beers and cut a deal with him to help tow u to the hard pack if needed when it time to leave , dont worry there will be lots of peeps willing to help . and as far as the buggy goes I say take it . have fun

There are no "campgrounds" on the beach unless you bunk up at the RV park. You literally camp ON the beach. 2wd will be tricky, and I would venture to guess that you will get stuck, but there are a lot of people who will help pull you out.

I have a turbo hayabusa 2 seat sandrail and the hills are pretty small, but still fun. Some decent bowls, but nothing like Dumont where you can really open it up unless you are on sand highway.

may is pismo primetime for camping, its gonna be tough to find a good spot. i would say leave the rail behind and try to pack light, it will be to your advantage since you only have a 2wd truck. id even say to take your water tanks empty and fill them up from the mobile truck once you settup camp.

Anyone know a good spot nearby the camp area to pick up VP 110? Gonna be making a first trip to Pismo in mid June and would like to haul from AZ dry. Glamis makes it so easy with fuel across from beach store I've been spoiled. By the gallon bulk would be best if possible.

You can take Grand and follow it all the way down, or you can take 4th street. Make a left at the light. Go straight for a mile. Make a right hand turn on Grand. Get in the left lane. Drive over the rail road tracks. Make a left at the light (Hwy 1). Go down a mile. Make a right hand turn on Pier Ave. Follow it a mile down to the beach.

The 4th street way is quiet a bit faster.

I will be there the same weekend. Look for a lifted white Ford F-250 06. Blue & white Banshee. We will be at marker 5. If you see us I look forward to the ride. :headbang:

I will also give you a hand puling you out if you get stuck.

I might be making my first trip to Pismo, I hear you gotta spray the bike down with WD-40 to keep the rust away. Is that true or is there another way to fight off the salt water?
