SkinInd_Banshee
Hey All, Instead of going with aftermarket oversized float bowls I have heard you can cut a side of the float to allow more fuel mass in the bowls. I am willing to do this, my question is have any of you done this without problems? I dont want them to leak while parked on a hill or riding! Have a great day, Skin Edited February 16, 2010 by SkinInd_Banshee
fastbanshee8
If you cut one side out of the floats, they will never raise up to shut off the fuel coming into the bowls, and cause them to over fill. This will cause the overflow tubes to run gas out, as long as the gas is on, and create a rich condition. It doesn't sound like a good idea at all. If it was, then why do many of the builders, and racers use over sized bowls, and not do what you suggested?
SkinInd_Banshee
Im not looking for a theory of how you think this is going to work. I have been told by 2 people one of them was at Farm and Sand Toys and told me it was ok. I want to know if anyone on here has done it. firebanshee
All my alky carbs have a float cut off one side with no oversized float bowls, works good. I have never tried it with gas carbs.

Well if one of this sites well respected builders told you it was ok, then why would you come on here and ask? You kind of sound like a dick. What side did you trim off and do you go duning or dirt drag? I think the right side is cut off. I sand drag at the dunes and 300ft dirt drags at Albany Oregon. Also i have a dual feed pingel valve and have my gas cap vent drilled out. Edited February 17, 2010 by firebanshee
SkinInd_Banshee
Why you got to trash my postings. Im not a dick, It irritates me when people give out false information about bikes and think they know what they are talking about. As far as FAST goes i want some more input there are pjs and pwks some have plastic floats others have metal.
Bansh-eman
Removing the float is fine. I have billet bowls and a flaot removed (got it that way when I bought it) on a set of Mikuni's. Causes no issues what so ever. Just make sure your flaot hieght is set properly and ride. Keep in mind the float is not going to give you a ton of more space for fuel, but every little bit helps. SkinInd_Banshee
sweet thanks banshee-man and firebanshee im just running pump fuel on the setup in my sig with the pingel and gas cap mod hope i dont run out on a long pull
Bansh-eman
You should be fine. I was running my 421 cub on 35 PWK's and stock bowls running all the way to the top of Olds and China Wall in Glamis and never came close to running dry. If you run alky you may get a little close becasue they use more fuel.
SkinInd_Banshee
Did you have a float cut on your cub w/ 35s? If i dont need to cut it I wont for resale value im trying to get 39 eventually
Bansh-eman
No. My 35's were bone stock. No billet bowls or anything. Never had any issues with fuel. That was before the cub was ported too though.
SkinInd_Banshee
Right on, when I replaced my pistons I looked under the crown and no signs of overheating. A cub with a more agressive port, alcohol, I would put on bigger bowls
