Hey all....i just recently picked up a 01 banshee from a police auction. its in pretty decent shape....but im concerned about the jetting. It has FMF fattys, v-force reeds and powercore-2 silencers, and a 2-1 air filter. Where i ride in the summer is usually around 70 degrees and 1200 ft elevation.

The bike starts always on the second kick....if not on the first. when i first took it for a ride i noticed it has a real bad low speed bog....wants to die if you pin it. but if you feather the throttle to the powerband it starts to scream like it should. I pulled the carbs off and it has #240 mains and #25 pilots..... i have this bad feeling that its way lean isn't it???

I know you can search many topics on this site and many can answer your problem. What size of carbs do you have? Make sure the pilots aren't clogged, have a clean filter, and your plugs aren't fouled out. I would suggest doing some plug chops too. If the engine is left at idle does it have a tendency to slow down and die? If so I would adjust the air screws a 1/4 turn at a time and let it idle for a while for the engine to adjust.

ya that is pretty lean. especially for winter temps. if you have the 2 into 1 airfilter with no airbox i would say you could jump to a 300 and do some plug chops from there. while your at it you could bump your oilot to a 27.5 and clean carbs thoroughly and adjust air screws like misspelled said

The carbs are stock. as to any internal build up im not sure of...... the plugs are almost completely new. When it idles it continues to idle with no problems. I did notice that when you throttle up the right bank seems to cut out until just before the powerband comes back.....

are the plugs almost completely new or just real lean?the cut out issue is a lean condition,as well as misfire/backfire.i would start at at lleast 300 main since the weather is cold.keep upjetting main until you get a little burble/gurgle on WOT.back down to the size before it started that.ur main will be good.i also agree with the 27.5 pilots.it has to make a difference, just pay more attention and let idle for 20 seconds between air screw adjustments for engine to respond to the changes.even with a wrong size pilot it will still idle fine, just of idle you'll find its not right.do the main and pilot,u might or might not need the dynojet/aftermarket needles depending on how the bike likes the changes.dont get needles till u do both jet circuits tho.

Here is a great site to read on to help with jetting.

But if you have the 2-1 filter with fattys. You should be around 310ish and 27.5 pilots for winter. In the summer I had to move back the the 25 pilots and mains went down to around 290's. Also you need to make sure the the carbs are synced before you try to dial in the bottom end of the bike. If they are out of sync, one pipe will come on before the other and will take most of the load tell you get the carbs opened up more. There is a air meter gauge that you can buy that will help tune them in. I tried to do it by sight and by the glass windows and they where still off after checking them with the air meter gauge. They are around $35 and will help you in the long run. Unless you go to a single carb. But the 240 mains are for the pipes with the air box lid still on. So dont ride it tell you get some more jets and have it jetted or you will be doing a top end rebuild. If you are on ebay, there is a guy that is sellin a lot of jets as a package for around $30ish. Great deal for those. If you plan on keeping the stock carbs. I would invest in the TORS kit. And getting the jets from around 250-340ish because that will allow you to jet for mods later on. The guys on here are great to help out in anyway they can and send you in the right direction. Just remember to try the SEARCH button first because almost everything has been asked. Best of luck and ride it like you stole it. AFTER JETTING!!!!
