bbcmudtruck
I need some new plastic and I want to switch to silver but I can't seem to find any. My next question is if I can find some, which is better, UFO or Maier? I found some lakers, but I'm not real keen on the way the fronts are cut. I don't like the look of fullbores so thats not an option. So, where do I find a set of complete new and uncut silver fenders? Thanks for the help! SandRageShee
maier makes good products. their pieces are relatively thick plastic and hold up really well and have a nice gloss to them but maier is pricey, just about as pricey as fullbore or laker. ive never seen ufo plastics for a shee so no help there but imo id go for the maier or stockers painted nicely with plasticizer to make the paint flexible and a couple thick coats of paint with some thick coats of clear
NickisGod
if i were you, witch im not, id stick with either full bore or laker because of the one piece front. ufo and maier only offer replacement plastic much like the oem design and somehow get cracked broken or fly off at high speeds. laker has a more boxier mx style and fullbores are rounded and seen on alot of drag bike. i guess its all preference, i got lakers
bbcmudtruck
I do like the look of the silver lakers, I just don't like the way they are cut on the front. I want to be able to cut my fronts a certain way. I guess its oem or Maier. Thanks for the help.
locogato11283
i had maier's one time and they were junk. they didnt fit for shit. i was always having to fudge stuff to the right place.. what about fast fibers? http://site.fast-fibers.com/
Building my First
Someone on here was talking about making vacuum bagged fiberglass fenders a couple weeks ago. Said he would be doing Carbon Fiber very soon. If I remember right he said something about $150 for front or back.
NickisGod
i kinda see fiberglass and carbon fiber as being bad materials to recomened to someone whos mostlikely going to get muddy and or ride anywhere where sticks and stones are present. plastic gets its strength from being flexable on the otherhand fiber glass is a rigid fiberous material thats proned to chips cracks and scratches. im not saying this cant happen to plastic but i no my lakers are in A++ condition even after owning them for over a year. whenever i think of fiber glass on anything i get images of broke snowmobile hoods lol
Bill
Ive been rockin a set of black UFO's for a couple years now and they are ok, a little soft for my liking. They get dinged and scratched pretty easy, probably why they are the cheapest.
fastbanshee8
I've had good luck with the UFO's in the past.
vulvafan537240
i have silver maiers and have had no problem with them in 2 years. fitment was a small issue (radiator cover) but no biggy. maier used to be crap back in the day but sometime back they changed their molding process and ever since they shine and look just like oem. 87sheerips
Im guna be trail riding and bashing these fast-fibers. They seem pretty flexible actually
Fast-Fibers
I spray these fenders so they are more flexible than a hand laid fender. Fiberglass is very flexible if you allow it to be which is why I suggest that a rubber grommet be used at all mounting points on trail bikes. Carbon fiber however is not flexible at all and in fact is very brittle. Draw back to glass is you have to paint it!
bansheesandrider
As far as I know the UFO stuff only comes in white, black, and blue. Yes, Maier changed their process a few years ago and it now looks as good as OEM. My wife wants a pink bike so I am going to be putting the Maier on it, but I am going with black Yamaha tank and radiator covers because I don't like the Maier radiator cover/grille. I have painted Yamaha radiator and tank covers on my bike and I won't do that again because the paint rubs off where the seat touches them. Painted plastic or fiberglass is fine on a drag bike, but for anything that could get scratched up, I would go with something that has color molded in. I am always not going through shit so I don't scratch or chip my paint. Also, I don't like the one piece fronts because I don't want to have to take off the whole front to work on things, with cut front fenders, I can pull the tank and radiator covers leaving the fenders in place and do most of the work I need to do on my bike. Fast-Fibers
One piece fronts are not for everybody, I run them 1: because I make them 2: because its hard to beat a seamless paint job and 3: I rarely if ever remove the fenders to work on the bike. The only thing under the hood is the radiator and fuel tank and all else can be reached from underneath. Even if you need to remove them they have half as many mounting screws and can be completely removed as quick a 3 piece can be disassembled. It all boils down to personal preference. broncbob
What is the weight on the fast fibers? How is the edges finished?
