35thLS1SS19 Posted January 26, 2010 Report Share Posted January 26, 2010 Hey guys! This is my first 2 stroke and i am loving it so far, had it fro 8 monthsish, but i have a few questions. I went with pro circuits, cut the lid with a uni, and re jetted. Also the tors delete and 450 front end. I beat up on stock 450's now which makes me happy. Bit like any guy i want more! SO next i want to do reeds... and timin plate. When i get a timin plate which one do you suggest? Also i am going to have to re jet? I have 290's now stock pilot and air screw out 2 turns.. How big for a starting point when i bump the timing? next this may be stupid but hill climbers..... when you hit a hill you hit it in 2nd 3rd? Like i said i am used to 4 pokes and the power is always there i notice i am a bit hesitant to hit hills cause i am not used to the 2 stroke. I have hit a few good size in 2nd and by the top i am winding out that gear.... do i shift into third? Should i hit the hill in thrid. I am sure once i get used to it i will be where i was with the 4 stroke or maybe its my older age i take less risks lol. Thanks for the help! You may have to bump up 1 main sizeif the bike feels a little hotter, but most people don't change anything for a timing adjustment. Your not putting more or less air through the carbs. As far as the plate go with Rickystator, In the near future you may want to look at a cool-head with smaller domes. As far as the shifting it will just take some getting use to with the gears... You can shift in while on the hill but its really hard to keep momentum so try hitting the hill in a higher gear, and/or feathering the clutch a little. They more or less help improve throttle responce. I would up the compression before you do reeds. You can ethire have your stock head modded, or buy a cool head. A cool head is pretty slick. It uses all o rings to seal instead of a head gasket. They have domes or combustion chambers that you can switch out to change the compression ratio. What elevation do you ride at? You want to shoot for 150 PSI of compression to stay running pump premium fuel. 150 psi of compression and timimg set at +4 on premium pump fuel will be a desent boost in midrange. josh Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

locogato11283 Posted January 26, 2010 Report Share Posted January 26, 2010 go with the chariot timing plate. its a really nice piece for the money and chariot is a site sponsor here on HQ. there is a link to their ebay store in the sponsor section. if you click on the BHQ Sponsors banner up top itll take you there. as far as the hillclimbing, 2nd is your best bet unless youre hauling ass through the trails and come up on a hill. a lot also depends on gearing. if youre stock, i would recommend 2nd gear. I will notice that much power? Nothing else needs to be done? You need a banshee flywheel puller. You can get them for around 15 bucks. Don't use a 3 jaw puller you can bend the flywheel. You just take off the flywheel. Remove the stator. Then put the stator on the new timing plate. Set it at +4 ( you use the seem where the case half's meet as the indicator). Bolt it down, install the flywheel. Set the pickup coil gap between the flywheel nodes and pickup coil. Just use a match book cover or business card. Make sure you check both nodes. One might be slightly taller or shorter. Go off the tallest one. It will make the mid range a little stronger. The same goes for upping the compression. You can run 150 PSI of compression with +4 deg of timing on pump premium fuel. No re jetting required because your not increasing the air flow through the engine. After pipes Porting is the next big step up in power.
