WSM pistons

Recommended Posts

I saw a previous thread earlier today about a piston type, so I figure Id ask about these before I buy them.

Anyone ever heard of or used these pistons?WSM pistons (made in Germany) I found them on ebay at a pretty reputable dealer with good long standing past. $230.00 for the pair including everything (rings, pins, clips, top end gasket set etc....) I have only sourced the Wiseco pistons from a dealership here in Ontario, I know that they are a reputable name, Ive used them before.

Any info would be great! Im going to take silence as a strike against them!

WSM is Wossner GmbH in Germany. They make pistons for Porsche, Benz, BMW, Ferrari, etc, and make pistons for the high end aftermarket. I prefer them over Wiseco myself. I've also used them in a couple vw and audi motor builds with very good success. The germans make some good shit.

Hey, I just pulled 1 out of a bike I was parting out. I'm guessing you saw my post. The consensus there seemed like they were good pistons but you will have to have the bore setup for a forged piston when you have it bored, which the WSM ones are.

Alright guys thanks for the info, Im seriously looking into them. Im wondering then, should I have the pistons in hand when I bring the cylinders into the shop? Or should I order the pistons according to the finished hone?

Thanks for the information, I wasn't aware of the difference.

When you inspect and measure numerous sets of race pistons every couple weeks, mic's don't lie and you get a good sense of who makes a good piston. I've seen and mic'ed more than a couple sets of 2 stroke WSM pistons and they've always been perfect. I can't say the same for wiseco.

Midlife: Always send your pistons with the jugs to be bored. Tolerances must be adjusted for forged vs cast pistons. I know of quite a few shops that won't hone a cylinder without a piston in hand.

I know that this is an old thread, but Im getting mixed info from you guys and the local bike shop (and not neccessarily from this thread)

.I was going to buy the WSM pistons, from ebay, so I called the local shop about bringing them in when I am bringing in the cylinders for the hone/bore. He told me that he wouldnt recommend anything other than a stock piston because they expand and contract much less than a Wiseco or a WSM. Im pretty sure that they are all forged, so once and for all, what is the best choice? Most of you guys have rebuilt at least once, what have you used? Also if Im replacing the pistons and the original bore (stock) is 64mm, then what size should I order before I even take out the jugs from the bike? In other words, how much smaller than the jug size should the ordered piston be?

everybody and there brother uses wiseco pistons, that being said they are proven! They last years and are a great choice. Ive always ran wisecos in all my two cycles. Im sure there are other companys such as wsm that make great pistons, but why not run what is proven. The stock pistons are cast, wisecos are forged.
