hey guys i got a 1992 banshee with t5s and k&n and my friends goin to buy a yfz 450 and i know hes guna run his mouth that its faster and i hate people like that lol , his bikes guna be built, i thinks its got cams and hi comp piston, what should my next mods be so i can smoke his ass and shut him the F**K up, i know im a better rider so il smoke him on a track all day

i would get a timing plate and set it to +4, add some compression by milling the head or getting a head with interchangeable domes and maybe some bigger carbs

 

or if you want to put a hurting on him just send your cylinders out to be ported :headbang:

well the timing plate seem to fit the budget but i dont want to take out the reliability of my engine, and if pull the jugs off i mite as well pull the crank out to and get it trued and welded , would a timing plate and maybe some boyesn reeds make a big difference or what? who would mill a head for me and how much would it cost? its lookin like i might have to start savin

I wouldn't be too worried about that YFZ. I had a 480 with hotcams, esr intake, hmf pipe, head porting, etc and it wasn't that much faster than well set up stock stroke banshees.

 

I'd get the timing plate for starters

Need to do all the bolt on's first. Timing plate, F.A.S.T. HEAD w/domes, V force, and then consider doing the true/weld and porting will be the next step. YFZs are no joke IF setup right. Same for the Banshee but most dont put the time/effort into jetting, gearing, and setup. Porting is where the BIG power comes in on the Banshee.

If it were me, id just send the cylinders to Jeff and you will shit yourself when you get them back. He did a playport 350 for me set up to run 110 octane and it flat hauls ass. I built the bike for my brother geared towards duning not racing. It takes a whole lot more than a piped/cammed 450 to put it down,and I am running t5s and stock carbs and reeds to boot. He keeps telling me to put 33s on it, but im not touching anything. It runs and rides so well i dont need anything more. I have one of his stock cylinder 4 mils on the shelf right now, just been too busy to get it together, plus i love the 350 so much, i have been just stealing my brothers bike to ride whenever i get a chance.

I don't know about that BigRed, my 480 YFZ was about 3-4 bike lengths faster up choke than my +4 timing, 20cc dome, V3 reeds, with Pods, T5 Banshee. I think it is going to take more than +4 timing.

 

Go read my post again. I said " it wasn't that much faster than well set up stock stroke banshees." It WAS faster than most stock strokes out there, but not by much. 3-4 lengths isn't that much on a hill the size of choke. The banshee you described is also just just a basic mod bolt-on banshee. Porting and carbs on that banshee and it would be a lot closer to your yfz, probably passing it.

 

I also said for starters do the +4 timing. I know its going to take more than that, but thats a good starting point.

 

For the $ you dump into the YFZ's you just don't get much back out of them. Especially in the sand. If you have a YFZ and a banshee and spent the same $ on both in engine mods the banshee will be much faster.

Well your right about the 450's being a "large investment, little return item". I put allot of money into my YFZ, cracking pistons, cracking cylinders. I put less money into my banshee, and I am MUCH faster than my YFZ. I think porting is the only way he is going to consistently beat this YFZ, that is my experience.

I agree with this. My 350 bike when it was just all bolt on would usually pull a couple of bikes on a piped/intaked 450 with equal sized riders. more than that and the 4 pokes would take it. After porting, it is a whole new game. I could toy with the piped 4 pokes and my buddy has a yfz with an ice cube? or some shit big bore cylinder and i can take him.

My freakishly fast bolt on Banshee has never been beat by a YFZ with pipe, filter, cam, HC piston (or any other bolt on modded banshee for that matter.) Most piped YFZs are easy to beat for me. I think the Yamaha factory just made my cylinders in perfect specifications :confused:

 

So, you might as well try with the bolt ons first. Mill the head 0.020", drill you your stock stator plate as far as you can (puts the timing at about +5 probably), reed cages (if in your budget - hell mine just has stock), and you should be good to go. :cheers:

What kind of track do you plan on racing him on? Man a bone stock YFZ will put a stompin' on ya unless your racing in a straight line; or you have tons of suspension work...and maybe even still them. They come out of corners HARD because of the instant torque they produce.
