From what I have seen it is open to the public and the more people we can get to turn out to let our voices be heard to the panel. The final decisions will come down to our legislators so I would encourage to write to them since we are the people who put them in office to look out for our best interests not some environmentalists. Money talks and we know what walks.....

maybe you can get an address and we all can write letters. Shoot, I'll write a letter everyday.

The addresses for the forest service and for our legislators is posted up on dunercentral.com There is a topic in there that has all the information that you would need.

Ya, this is a terrible thing. I just got back into the sport last summer after some time off since I moved up to the PNW from NY. I always used to dream of the dunes when I was a kid and now Im here and they want to start shutting it down??!?!?! Once it starts fellas, they won't be satisfied until there is nowhere to ride. The more they close down, the higher probability of accidents cuz everyone will be crammed in one spot. (then oooo its too dangerous, ya cuz you bastards made it that way!) Eventually we will alll be getting chased by police for riding where we are not "supposed" to. I bought a yfz for last season(4 poke I know) to adjust to sand and now got a 03 shee that I am working on and I will be furious if they shut us down. OR dunes rock and we need to keep it that way. Its bad enough no good pipes are DB legal unless you give them cascade fellas a paycheck for silencers (good ppl though lol). I was supposed to do some work around the house but I might have to grab my neighbor/riding buddy and head down there. Good point too on the business owners out this way. In a struggling economy lets go ahead and put more businesses under. Well Im taking the drive from Portland to stand up for us all Saturday so I can take the drive when its time to ride.

Here is a recap of the meeting that went down in florence on Saturday from one of the OHV supporters....

There were a small group of us that attended the field tour on Friday, including YZ Otis. There were six non-workgroup members who spent the whole day in the meeting on Saturday, including YZ Otis. I'm pleased to say that all six of us were OHV rights supporters. Quite a few others showed up for the public comment period. About a dozen of us made public comments including YZ Otis. Anyone who knows him should make a point to thank him for taking his time to come down, at his own expense, and do what so many others are unwilling or unable to do.

Those who came for only the brief time in the late morning to make a comment probably left with a false sense of optimism regarding the enormous battle we still have in front of us, as that portion was mildly optimistic. However, having spent Friday afternoon, Friday evening, all day Saturday and Saturday evening with members of the workgroup and local OHV supporters I can tell you with 100% ceratinty that optimistic is not the way you should feel about this. I learned a great deal this weekend and while I won't burden you with all of it, I'd like to share something with you all.

Please consider the following:

21% of the Oregon Dunes are currently open to OHV use

17% of the Oregon Dunes are regulated trails that are currently on the chopping block. It's this 17% that will disappear from OHV access very soon. I said WILL. Maybe not all of it but it is possible. And it is certain that large portions of it WILL BE LOST. How much depends on what the forest service ultimately decides.

Think about that. This workgroup is scheduled to make their recommendations to the forest service in June of 2010. Not next year, not the year after, or the one after that. This workgroup has some serious OHV opponents on it. Bird watchers, mushroom pickers, Snowy Plover advocates and local wealthy people who hate noise to name just a few. We have good people on our side on that workgroup but it's definately not enough. There are too many opponents for them to handle alone. Be afraid. In less than a few months, we could very easily lose another 17% of the dunes, leaving us with only 21% of the entire Oregon Dunes to ride on.

SO WE NEED TO UNITE AND GET ALL THE LOCAL SHOPS, BUILDERS, AND COMMUNITIES TO SPEAK UP BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

Any updates on this? The forest service sucks. They are closing down a shit load of logging roads and trails in the Redding area.

Sorry about the CA gay area trans plants. They area F**king up Far Nor Cal faster than I thought possible. I have one as a neighbor and it is unbelievable. He comes to the country where everone is friendly and everyone knows everybody else around them, 5 acre minimums so all the houses are well separated, with only 2 other neighbors including myself, and puts up massive privacy fences and security gates.
