dirtydownunder
hey!, i was tuning the bike and could not shake this hestitation at high gear, low speed, wot and mid rpm (before it gets on the pipe) it felt like ignition but i thought i was there and should try jetting anyway. so i went from 155main and all the clip position to 158 and 152 mains. the bike takes off awesome if you go 1,2,3,4,5,6 and is great when your on the pipe but say you cruising and hit some boggy sand and go wot (high engine load situation) it sorta misses and hesitates (doesnt backfire or pop), enough for me to get off the throttle asap. tests came back coil primary .5 - .9 (.28 - .38) factory ohms coil secondary O/C- O/C ( 4,700 - 7100) factory ohms coil plug 5.19 ohms coil plug and lead 5.22 ohms pickup coil 117 (94-140) factory ohms pickup gap .19 thou charging coil 18 (13.7 - 20.5) factory ohms spark plug gap .6mm so it appears to be the coil, and whats worse is that it was wired up backwards from the dealership !! that may have caused its short life, it also sucks that im trying to tune a new setup with this happening. i did a plug chop to see what its burning like but when i took off 1,2,3,4 i had to stop so i pulled clutch/shut off and did it again (on the same new plugs). ( due to loose dirt it did not take long to get though the gears so not much engine load) chop was done on 155mains clip in middle position on oko 30s avgas/94 mix what is a good coil to get ?? and does 141/141psi comp on 20 cc domes, ASL with dune/play port sound normal ? thanx guys. Secondary must be tested lead to lead. Remember to add the wire resistance if you test with them in the circuit. I will bet your coil is fine. They rarely actually fail but the lead terminations do need fixed up every now and again... If your engine runs, your secondary sure is not O/L Did you put your leads together and deduct that resistance to your measurement? dirtydownunder
i have two different multimeters and they both read the same (both digital, one is autorange auto that n this and the other is manual and is only .4ohm when wires r crossed.) with testing lead to lead i get 16.01ohms with testing lead to neg on coil i get nothing with testing - + of coil it flickers from .5 to .9 ohms thanx. sleeper06
your testing with boots off rite,if not try that next I usually get 5.5 ohms
AKheathen
x2 on blowits' post. you have to subtract the meters' resistance. they have an ohms zero adjustment, but not usually marked and inside, but the needle meter may have it external. even so, .1-.5 is not right, and neither is 16. just testing the coil secondary without the caps should be more like 5k area
dirtydownunder
testing lead to lead with no plugs caps gives me 5.8ohms. i tested my mates coil and that was exactly the same, as well as the mixed polarity wiring to the coil. (both 08 banshee's) im running outa things , trying to find a dyna coil, but as my work is closed on holidays i cant get it delivered. thanx guys.
