Need Advise?

ok so awhile ago my shee wouldnt rev all the way out and would pop and sputter and had starting issues and i can to the conclusion of it being my flywheel. after i replaced the flywheel my shee runs 120% better but still has little trouble on the topend. now it will rev almost all the way out but still seems to hit a wall at the top. it doesnt really sputter or pop to much anymore, but now it just kinda hits a wall and starts to cut in and out. The thing is when i pulled the flywheel the stator was pretty ruff. it was badly rusted and the wires were alittle frayed, so i cleaned up the rust as best as i could and fixed the wires ans cleaned it up with electrical cleaner. its still not perfect but the bike starts on the first kick everytime and runs great but till i hit the top of any gear and then i just hits al wall. so im wondering if i should just go ahead and replace the stator because it seems to be an electrical isue still?? :confused:

 

ps i have 27.5 pilots, 310 mains, needle clip middle position and my mods are procuruit pipes, k&n filter with proflow, and no snorkel with lid on, 50-60 degrees and im about 5000 absl

If the flywheel changing fixed your original problems, but not all the way, I would lean toward an electrical issue. I would test the stator with an Ohm Meter, as described in Clymers, the lighting coil on it won't matter a whole heck of a lot, but the ignition coil may be out of tolerance. Aslo I would check the ignition coil located on the front of the bike above the cylinders.

 

Do you have TORS removed? If not I would suggest doing away with all that crap too.

 

From the symptoms it sounds like an electrical issue, it isnt smoking excessively? And it is running fine up until it dies out right? If he electrical stuff is all original to 87 it is getting up there in age.

 

 

EDIT: Forgot to add 310 mains sound very large, I'm thinking you should be running 270s/280s max with an airbox with a lid and PC pipes.

thansk for the advise but the bike runs great and hardly smokes at all and runs flawlessly untill u get towards the very top of the gear. but the electrical is all brand new, with tors removed, and has a new good ignition coil on it. so i think im just gonna pick up a new stator if nothing else it will help solve future problems.. once again thanks :cheers:

 

ps i had 310's in to start with and to work my way down

hows your jetting?sounds a lil lean on top if its cutting out and theres no smoke

Oh and yes the bike does smoke but just as much as it should though... itll put out some when i first start it and if i get into the throttle abit... but no there is not a ton of smoke billowing out just as much a healthy 2 stroke should :)

Dont get a ricky stator or rm stator, or any other cheap tiawan brand. A good used OEM stator is the way to go, or pony up some big bucks and get a new OEM Yamaha stator. I have a bran new spair yamaha stator on hand. I got tired of scewing with ricky stator. Had the same problem as your having. Ran real crusty on the top end.

I still think that jetting sounds awfully rich. If your stock bore/stroke/port, especially with that altitude, with an airbox with a lid and stock carbs, I would definately say 270/280 mains with 27.5 pilots. I used to run almost exactly the same setup on my 2002, and I know a 280 was a little rich at sea level. The stator may indeed be bad, but I'm still thinking your jetting is pretty rich as well.

thanks guys i think im going to start to fine tune my jetting when it warms up... cause its like 12 degrees outside right now.... but i whent ahead and picked up a good oem stator and if nothing else it will be good to replace the old rusty one in there.. so ill let u know how everything goes

what are your spark plugs gapped at :cheers:????. this can cause problems also... i learn the hard way./..... also... is the bike hitting a wall as in cuts out or its not pulling in high rpm... is this is the case maybe all u need todo is shift into the next gear... the motor isnt gonna pull for ever in any given gear....well as of what i think i know.. a banshee is not for u to strecth all the gears out asd in a mile run u know.. i 6 seconds ur prolly already in 4- 5 gear.. u know

yea the plugs are gapped right i double checked everything with my clymers..... but as for it not reving out, iv been ridding for years and have a few other bikes and this doesnt feel anything like the top of a gear.. but most of the time i cant even get to more than half throttle really before having to shift and it does it in sixth gear as well. becasue it pulls and continues to pull hard and then bam a wall! so i pretty sure its electrical... well we will see when i get my new parts :shrugani: .... thanks for the sudgestion but i think im just gonna have to get out there and tinker wth it :whoa:
