crustydemon
Thank everyone for the help and advise. As soon as I get a Blaster set up for the kid I'm going to set a date and go.
crustydemon
One more question, is there a road that runs parallel to the railroad tracks?
So Cal Suspension
One more question, is there a road that runs parallel to the railroad tracks? Well, it's not a "Road" per-se. They call it "wash road". But it's essentially a wash. I usually camp at roadrunner, but it gets crazy out there. Supposedly they re-did wash road, I haven't been over there lately. Maybe one of the other glamis guys can advise? Here's how the washes work. They are numbered 1 through whatever, basically all the way to Mexico. They run RIGHT next to the railroad tracks. Literally 10 feet to the southwest. The train tracks are very dangerous if you're stupid. Don't try to cross them for any reason. You can go under them at wash 10. I am a big fan of wash 14. It's big (or at least was last time I camped in the washes), open, and far enough away from the highway that most idiots don't go out that far. The farther you go on wash road, the less it is maintained, but also there's less people that go out there. On a big weekend, it's not uncommon for people to be camped all the way to wash 25+. When you get all your stuff together post something on here. I'm sure there's plenty of us Glamis fans that would love you meet you guys out there and show you around. I know I would. I'm always looking for more bikes to ride with. I'm usually the only bike that goes in our groups. They're all married with little kids, so everyone sold their bikes and bought buggies. (Does that mean I'm getting old?)
Bansh-eman
They graded wash road, but by now it is probly getting rough again. Each wash will have paint so you know which wash your at. If someone says wash 14 1/2 that means they are about halfway between 14 and 15 in the flats. I like 14 and on becasue the washes open up and there are not as many people acting like jackasses riding balls open through the camps in the middle of the night. Sandfrk33
I've been reading this post for a few days to help decide where to camp. We are planning a trip for presidents. I've only been once in 2004. We camped at the very bottom of gecko road and it sucked. Miles from anywhere. My buddy told me to camp at the garbage flats. Where is that? Is it by the store? Thanks
Bansh-eman
He is probably talking about the flats behind the vendor area near the store.
polkaudio
He is probably talking about the flats behind the vendor area near the store. Yep, that's where garbage flat is, behind the store. That area is huge and can get very dusty due to the amount of people that are there. It's basically a large mesa, hard pack for the most part so getting stuck isn't an issue. It's pretty much the closest camping place to Olds. Bansh-eman
Wash 14 and 15 are also very close to Olds. You head directly West over the dunes and you will comeup on the hill where Robby Gordon and the Metal Mulisha guys ride over looking Olds. Bansh-eman
Ahh that's cool. Now if they would build something like that closer to Glamis lol
So Cal Suspension
Ehh, vendors... Although the Mexican food trailer is quite nice on Sunday afternoon before heading out! I don't dare eat that stuff at the beginning of the trip. Not a big fan of the areas where thousands gather. If I wanted to see thousands of people in one place, I'd go to Disneyland. I go to ride, camp, and eat. Mostly ride. In conclusion, and I think most of us Glamis-ites will agree. If you want the washes, go to 14+. If you want to go to gecko... go ALL the way to the end to "roadrunner". One downside (i consider it a good thing), is it's kind of a journey from the highway, on big weekends it can get backed up if they're checking passes on the way out. They have nice bathrooms scattered around roadrunner, that are cleaned DAILY. You read that right, daily. THAT is why we pay 90 bucks to go there for a season. So I have a clean place to shit. Oh yeah, and some relatively hard packed places to park. Again, make sure you let us know when you're going. We'll plan a ride or something. Unless you don't like us or something... andrew3160
Maybe on your way out there you could swing through Manhattan KS on I -70 and pick a few of us up. I have been trying to talk these guys into riding once this winter down at Little Sahara. They said too cold and want to goto glamis, just need a little motivation. Ha Ha. crustydemon
I'll let you know when I plan to go , i think it would be good to ride with people that know the area. I was just going to go with my oldest daughter but I'm thinking I should bring my dad or someone along to watch her so I can go out and do some serious riding. Bansh-eman
How old is your daughter? If she is young there are some areas you want to stay away from, becasue you will have guy bombing through there like bats out of hell not paying attention. If they have the sand drags going on Saturday when you guys are out there down off Gecko, make sure your at the beginning. I have seen some nasty spills that damn near went into the crowd down at the end.
crustydemon
She's 10 and doesnt pay attention either. She'd probably be the one to run someone over so we need a wide open area.
ban99
I would recomend going to Buttercup instead of Glamis. It's much more family freindly. There is also a new hotel/casino only 15 minutes from the dunes.
