This a great site, there is so much info here for me to read. This is my first post and im sure that there are alot of you guys out there that have a ton of expeirence with banshees so here goes. I just got a 97 that has had mild porting and it has T5s on it, a K&N filter set up with the lid off. Other than that Im guessing its mostly stock. I have been going though it, cleaning and lubing and replacing worn parts. Today I pulled the carbs to see what mains were in them. It looks as if someone had drilled out the stock 200s to about 250s. From what I have read this is way to small so what should they be? Im in sacramento I think its about 500 ft. about 60 degres. I want to jet it for here and then that will give me a base to start from when I go to sand mountain and moon rocks. I am new to 2 strokes other than the 250R I had when I was young so any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Josh

So after some time thinking about this I looked at the Jets again and they are 260s so im not sure what to do. I called the old owner and the owner before that and no one did any thing to it other than replace the old fmf pipes with the T5 pipes. He didnt change the jetting when he changed the pipes. I dont know how much that would change the jetting if any. He also tod me that he thought it was jetted for sand mountain. So I have a set of 290s and 330s and I can get others if needed. What is the consences about the mains for 500 ft.

I think the 330s will be rich and the 290s will be close possibly a little lean but imo 290s or 300 would be very close get some pods and 320s or 330s would be about right.

well, depending on what "older" fmf was on there, it would be pretty much the same as the t-5's...but that is pretty irrelevant....throw the 33-s in there for now, and order 320, 310, and 300, 27.5 and a little box, with a few tools, so you have a little jetting kit to go ridding and jet when you get there...

Im sorry to say but I dont run my bikes off of plug chops. I run and jet them off of how they run.. Saves money in the long term but what the HELL. I was taught this way and lead it on. But run the bike what jet you have WOT and then remember how it feels. Drop a main jet and see if if feels better. I jet up tell it Bogs out and drop back on Jet. Then I work to through the needle and on to the pilot. Here is a web page that I go back to and look on for help http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/jetfaq.html hope this helps!!!

psh, no to try to talk shyt, but some of the stuff in there is the root of alot of confusion and misconceptions.........

for example, the bogs and hesitations are not that definate. the symptoms grow in stages as much as 5 sizes either way, unless you are running a full stock setup. you will get a lean bog that can lead people to think rich and go the wrong direction. the occurence of a lean hesitation comes from when you are a couple sizes lean and it will still run but with just enough power to make it to the range of the pipe and then kick in. generally this is most dangerous when you are 1 size lean and it will make alot of power still, but you can hear it if you have the experience. backfiring from a lean condition happens when you run it for a while lean ad the temps get high enough to start detonating, and that is a bit of hard ridding...the biggest tell tale on lean is both the sound and lack of power in the higher gears, which usually pocks up as you let off on the throttle......now rich behaviors........generally you will not get a big rich bog unless you are pretty far off. it normally presents as simple sputtering and a dull tone. hold it in the sputtering and such, it would eventually load up.....so, where the plug chops come in- both as confirmation and a "cheat sheet" of jetting. the feel for jetting comes from experience, and you use your instincts and senses to feel it. so, when you are lost, or think you got it, but not sure, then you turn to plug chops. i agree, it does not make sence to spend a day or 2 chopping 20 plugs, but they do have a place in jetting. think i have done a total of less than 8, and i never even cut them, just used them as spares...and most of them were on a single jetting nightmare on the beach wheere it kept changing every hour......

Ok so tonight i put 330s in with a set of pods and its about 30 degreas out. It startted fine but is idleing high. I pulled out the choke to the first notch and it slowed down. I checked the air screws and they were at 1 1/2. I tryed 2 turnes out but it made no difference. I reved it up and it was boggy and smoking like a pig. I think I fouled a plug because only 1 side was blowen. So tommorow I will try again. I didnt get to ride it so it may be way boggy, but we will see. I have a set of 310s and 290s to try tommorow. Any ideas that I havnt thought of? Thanks, Josh
