Bnashee's & Twist Throttles...

Well, I've read a few mixed reviews on twist throttles now. I'm building my banshee from the frame up w/ new & used parts. I've installed a new pro something twist throttle kit, wasnt a cheap junky one thats goona stick on me, but I'm curious as to who here has run twist throttles on banshee's for trail riding, and what the likes and dislikes are about it? Everything I've ridden 2stroke has been a twisty, minus sleds of course.

Just wanna see what your guys opinions are. I do have the yamaha thumb throttle sittin on my bench also, but the quad wont be running for about a month or so. By then it will be winter too, haha.

Twist on any thing but a 2 wheeler is a bad idea if you ask me.

On a bike you lean to do most of your turning. On a quad you have to turn the bars and lean off the pig to get it to turn. All of that moving around makes a twist hard to control, especially in the tight stuff where your really moving around to get the quad to carve the lines

If all you ever do is flat drag, and MAYBE hill shots on a very smooth hill, a twist may work well.

I have a twist on all my quads. We had to put one on my daughter's blaster when she was eleven because her thumb got too tired on rides through the dunes. Everybody I ride with has a twist. My experience has been that if you grew up riding dirt bikes or started out with a twist on a quad you will be fine with it. As I am not the youngest rider around, there were only ATC90s for ATVs when I started riding so I grew up on dirt bikes. The only people that I have heard complain about a twist are the people that learned to ride with a thumb throttle. I think if they would commit to it that most of them would adapt and like it. I run a Magura 312 on mine. It is a dual rate throttle- you can choose 1 of 2 different turn rates, I use the slower one but it is still faster than any other throttle on the market, but I got used to it and love it now. It is very smooth because the pulley is on an actual bearing. It is no longer available, but supposedly the Magura 314 is the same throttle with a plastic housing instead of metal.

I have had my twist throttle on mine since 2000 and haven't looked back. Yeah, It took a little getting used to at first...now I don't even think about it, just feels natural.

And I ride my banshee through just about everything : Trails-Dunes-Drags-Hillclimbs...whatever

+1 no sore thumb

+1 most people don't ask to ride it b/c a banshee w/ a twist throttle scares them lol

Actually I think the reason that people dont like the twist throttles on quads, is that when they grew up using thumb throttles, there more adapted to holding on mainly with their arms, and not needing to really keep your body balanced on the quad or balanced when leaning, they just rely on their arm strength to hold them up, which would be a bad idea when your hanging onto a twist grip, so in return it might scare them when they are pulling on it and giving it more throttle then they wanted. Riders that are used to twistys, probably are more used to keeping themselves balanced on the bike or quad, their naturally balancing themselves better in the corners with their feet and leg muscles, not their arms?

Just a theory, balance plays a huge roll in snowmobiling in the rockies, doing climbs out there at 9000 - 12000 feet, you NEED to have good balance, and I'm pretty used to that, carving on 45* slopes.

all the trail bikes ive ever ridden, i wouldnt put a twist throttle on. That said, i dont ride tight trails im a duner. Going through the whoops i like my twist throttle cause as im flying through way too fast and letting the ass end ride it like a dirt bike and kicking the front up and down i can controll the throttle fine and actually it kinda gooses itself in a helpful way.

I grew up riding dirtbikes and I do not like the twist throttle on the Banshee that I just got, Im getting used to it and it is kind of fun but I know that there is no way its going to work when I take it out and really ride. The places that we ride you have to use the bars to brace yourself too much and to stay on the bike so I just have to have a thumb throttle.
