crustydemon
I finally got the 01 back together and took it out today to do some dialing in and am not very impressed with it. I have never rode a stroker so I dont know what I should have expected but it seems like a turd. It seems like I have to short shift it through all the gears because it doesnt seem to wind up. I dont know if my pipes are holding it back or the porting is wrong or what but I know Its worse than with the stock stroke. How is it supposed run compared to a stock stroke non ported? I had hopes of not being able to keep the front end down but I guess thats not a problem. Mods in sig.
Ieat4strokes
Something def ain't right..... What's you compression? What size carbs? Race fuel or alky? I just got my 4 mill back from Jeff at FAST and it screams. Having to let out of it in the top of every gear is about my only complaint. It tries to flip me over, very violent. So I can say something ain't right, I can't see your mods if u have em in ya sig, I'm on my phone in lo-fi mode. Who did ya porting? Timings could be off. It could be a number of things?! Clutches slippin, jetting not right etc......
crustydemon
My compression is at 165psi. Pro circuit pipes, Trinity mx port 130 degree transfers, 190 degree exhaust. Which Ive been told isnt the best port job but it shouldnt be this bad. I wondered about the clutch slipping but its hard to tell Its new one from Jeff at F.A.S.T but he gave me the light springs. Even if it was slipping the motor should wind up.
RadarRacing
If you have a stock swingarm you should have problems keeping it down in 4th gear with a trinity mx port. We always bash trinity but that should run really well. Its not the pipes holding you back PCs should work fine with that motor IMO . If you haven't checked squish clearance check that. That would mess up a 4 mil setup having wrong domes, but it could be jetting, ign, etc.

Bill
I got a 4mm woods port and it gets it,could be jetting or weak spark mabey.
MILO
On my last rebuild on my '01 it got bored .020 over, a 4 mil, ported, and +5 timing advance and it REALLY woke it up. I've had PC's along with some other stuff on mine also and it screams. As long as you can keep traction the front end is VERY light. It could be any number of things but start with the simple things first. Plugs, clean carbs, check the reeds, jetting, timing, etc.
crustydemon
Im running the 21 cc domes and I built this to run pump gas, Ive got good cranking compression and everything else is either new or in excellent condition. Carbs are super clean,in sync, I am a little lean on the mains. Get this though, I got about .040-.043 squish. Thats too much isnt it. I was so concerned about having a air leak I put a thin coat of yamahabond on both sides of the cylinder base gaskets and I knew I shouldnt have done it when I did it, That would be enough to throw the squish off but would it make it run that way? crustydemon
I guess my squish is ok, I thought that sounded excessive but from looking it up on the search Its alright. I originally put 165 mains in and figured Id be way rich so I put 160's in and tried it and was way lean then bumped to 162's and am still a little lean so I'll try the 165's tomorrow .Hope they work because they are the biggest ones I have. Its a bitch because its been going from like 35 degrees to 65 degrees throughout the day here for the last couple days.
wacko2000
Like stated above, there has to be something wrong somewhere. That setup should be a handful, PC pipes hit real hard and are a fun pipe That bike should be a wheelie monster through 4gears no problem My 4mil is hard to keep down in 4th and i have a +2 swinger I would double and triple check everything. Try swapping coils, stators, sparkplug boots. Check all the grounds on the bike Are you using fresh fuel?? How close are you on your jetting? i kno you said the temps are up and down right now so it going to be harder to get dialed in Have you tried calling Jeff or trinity for some help? Keep us posted
GNR101
when u say it wont rev out... is it reving clean? or little soft splutters? pulling hard till mid rev then stopping??
crustydemon
when u say it wont rev out... is it reving clean? or little soft splutters? pulling hard till mid rev then stopping?? It revs clean, no sputter or popping or anything, just low reving. I wouldnt even say it pulls hard till mid but not too bad,its hard to say because I have to shift so soon to keep it in what power it has. Its like its falling flat right before where I think it should be getting on the pipe and taking off. I would guess its my jetting but I have made so many changes to this bike all at once I dont know. Ive read that someone had problems with there pickup being too far away from the flywheel but I dont see how thats even adjustable.
MILO
Are you sure your jetting is right? 160's seem awfully small but i guess it depends on your elevation and other mods. the pickup at the flywheel is adjustable. if i remember correctly it should be gapped around .020" but you might want to double check that with a search here. a normal buisness card or match book cover will do the trick though if you don't have the feeler gauges. do you have other mods?? just for reference since we seem to running a similar set up, here's mine.
