White97Banshee
This might sound like a dumb question but if I want to send my cylinders off for some porting would I need to bore/hone the cylinders and rebuild the top end? I already know I DO want to re-ring the pistons after getting it ported but would rather not replace the pistons. I just rebuilt my top end like 6 months ago so it should still be fairly fresh. I am contemplating either HJR or F.A.S.T but am unsure of who to go with.. I want to get a dune/play port job and it seems about 300 for either company. What would you guys suggest? White97Banshee
What about the rebuild thing? Do I have to rebuild after I send em out?
jbooker82
It depends on how stuff checks out. Any reputable banshee shop will measure the cylinders, and pistons to see if they are in spec. What all was involved in the rebuild? Did you just put new pistons in the current bore size or did you have it bored, and new pistons put in. josh
White97Banshee
The right side piston melted so I got it bored and honed to .040 over.
FASTOYS
You can send the pistons with the cyls and they could check em at the time of porting. Should be fine with hone and rings.

pr0blumz
I recommend Kevin @ HJR. You will probably have your cylinders done and back within 2 weeks.

White97Banshee
Thanks for all the replies guys! I probably will get them honed and put new rings in before I put it back together if I get it ported. As for who I'll be going with.. Still thinking lol
MILO
Thanks for all the replies guys! I probably will get them honed and put new rings in before I put it back together if I get it ported. As for who I'll be going with.. Still thinking lol I went with HJR for my porting and rebuild work so I'll give him another vote since everything turned out great and I received excellent service from him. But that's not to say that F.A.S.T. wouldn't do the same. I think you would be safe & wise to choose either one over anyone else. Either way, let them do ALL of your work - getting the new pistons or using yours with just rings, boring, honing, porting, the whole deal. Everything should be matched together and it should be a 1 stop shop kind of thing.

I'm kind of on a tight budget but I was planning on having them hone the cylinders as well, as I am positive my pistons are fine but I am going to replace the rings just for peace of mind.
