gas port pistons

Has anyone ever gas ported their pistons? I drag raced cars and we did it on all of our motors. I ran a 2 ring piston in a 327 i ran had a .043 top ring and ran a real low tension 3/16 oil ring and vertical gas ports. There was some power between running gas ports and not running any.I dont know if it would work on a 2 stroke or not. I dont see why it wouldnt but im asking anyway. Thanks Mike

Usually the squish action in a 2 stroke gives enough gas pressure to where gas ports will not gain you much. I have tried it and just did not see the results.. Your power stroke is so short, it just does not make sense.

Gas ports are when you drill small holes in the head of the piston down in to the back of the ring land. That way you use the compression of the motor to force the ring out for a better seal. Usually you run low tension rings, and the gas ports force the low tension rings to seal, instead of running a high tension ring.

oh, ok......i was worried that it was something like what i've been doing for years to make power........just start with a modern fine crosshatch, and break it in like you are trying to brake it. will yeild the same great seal perminently without having to drill the crown/ringland.....and it stays sealed good at idle, too
