Squish band test

Does anyone know how to do a squish band test? I just recently had a port job and rebuild done and heard that you should do a squish test as well as some others. I heard you can do it by just taking one plug out and inserting a piece of solder. Does anyone have any pics or know how to read this test once you finish? Any info at all would be appreciated.

You can pull your plugs out, take a piece of solid solder and put it in the plug hole all the way to the cylinder wall and rotate the motor until the piston comes to tdc and past, take the solder out and measure with a caliper. You'll have to use thick enough solder.

Always stick the solder in from side to side (over the piston pin on both sides on the piston on both pistons) in the cyls and not front to back (Intake Exhaust ports) check both sides. Heres a lil vid, it will show you all you need to know. Takes 15 mins to do both sides of both pistons if that. If you don't measure side to side and just stick the solder in there anywhere up against the cyl wall it will give an inaccurate reading, as the piston rocks back and forth ever so little.

I got mine at .042

thanks, what is considered a good measurement? I have a cool head with 20 domes and a fresh rebuild. Not sure what I need to do if its not good.

I just added to my original post. anywhere from .040-.050 is good. Watch the vid though.
