toddyfresh
Im splitting my case to replace the crank seal and i had a question.. if i flip it upside down and pull the bottom of the case off can i change the seals that way without removing the top end? If I do pull the bottom off will the gears or anything fall out?
bbcmudtruck
Everything should stay in place. However if one of the gear sets decides to stick, just pull it out and set it back into place. Also, make sure you put the crank seals in facing the right way! toddyfresh
do u think its beeter to pull it from the bottom in my situation? so theres no loose parts all the gears are on the shaft? im new to the banshees
Justintoxicated
I have never done it that way, I would just pull the top of the case off... It might be easier to remove your top end when it comes to putting it back together. Anything that comes out of place you should be able to identify and put back in place. Don't forget you will need to completely clean all the crap off your cases (Yamabond) and re-apply the yamabond evenly when putting them back together, which is another reason why it's easier to put it back together with the top end removed. Which leads to why you probably want to pull the bottom off the top first...Hmmmmm. I'm not sure!
toolucky
do u think its beeter to pull it from the bottom in my situation? so theres no loose parts all the gears are on the shaft? im new to the banshees If you have no reason to pull the top end then yes its better to do it that way because it saves you some gaskets and time. Just make sure that your gears don't move, so when you put the bottom case half back on the forks will still line up.
toddyfresh
So the gear will basically stay where there at? It's okay if the spin?
bbcmudtruck
It will be much easier to pull the bottom from the top. The crank will stay with the topend/case. Just turn it upside down and pull the bottom off! If something falls off or out, put it back in! Like said above, it can be tricky sometimes to get your forks to line up when doing it this way, just take your time and you will be fine. Do you have a repair manual? toddyfresh
I can't do that as the clutch plates broke and ripped the seal. I also wanna make sure there's nothing sitting inside from the clutches. Should I put silicone on the seals when I'm done or will they be fine as is

13RAZOR13
Quick question so is the seal leaking on the waterpump side? If so i would just setup your leak down test put 7psi spray soapy water by the gear if its bubbling i would pull the gear off put silicone put the gear back on, tighten the bolt then let it dry for 24 hours and check the next morning i bet you it works and you wont have a problem thats what we had to do on a few motors. Just wondering where its leaking from.
