Splitting case at top or bottom?

I have never done it that way, I would just pull the top of the case off... It might be easier to remove your top end when it comes to putting it back together. Anything that comes out of place you should be able to identify and put back in place. Don't forget you will need to completely clean all the crap off your cases (Yamabond) and re-apply the yamabond evenly when putting them back together, which is another reason why it's easier to put it back together with the top end removed. Which leads to why you probably want to pull the bottom off the top first...Hmmmmm. I'm not sure!

do u think its beeter to pull it from the bottom in my situation? so theres no loose parts all the gears are on the shaft? im new to the banshees

If you have no reason to pull the top end then yes its better to do it that way because it saves you some gaskets and time. Just make sure that your gears don't move, so when you put the bottom case half back on the forks will still line up.

It will be much easier to pull the bottom from the top. The crank will stay with the topend/case. Just turn it upside down and pull the bottom off! If something falls off or out, put it back in! Like said above, it can be tricky sometimes to get your forks to line up when doing it this way, just take your time and you will be fine. Do you have a repair manual?

i split mine not too long ago to replace the clutch acctuator, push rod and bearing took top bolts out flipped it over then took bottom nuts off and split it like that the gears should all stay in placethere are rings that allign the gears and they only fit rite one way its alot easier and wont have to replace top end gaskets

sweet sounds like it wont be too bad.. i had my top end off earlier so i know its good i guess ill just check everything out on the bottom while im in there.. do i have to like lube up the gearsor anything before i seal it? also my local store doesnt carry yamabond they have threebond(?) is that ok?

i usually pack a little bit of grease in the crank seals.

threebond works great!

Quick question so is the seal leaking on the waterpump side? If so i would just setup your leak down test put 7psi spray soapy water by the gear if its bubbling i would pull the gear off put silicone put the gear back on, tighten the bolt then let it dry for 24 hours and check the next morning i bet you it works and you wont have a problem thats what we had to do on a few motors.

Just wondering where its leaking from.
