Velislide
Hey quick question here, in the process of ordering parts, and I want to replace the studs that hold the cylinders to the block... what are they called? All I can find is cylinder head stud kits, and would like to order some nice stainless studs for the whole engine! Any help would be awesome, never worked on a banshee before, just ordered a Wiseco full topend rebuilt kit w/ prolite .050 pistons, a clymers manual, Vforce 2 reeds, and looking for some studs! Next is to get a new cylinder head, still trying to figure out which one I want. I plan on running 91 octane.
jasons
call Jeff at FAST and tell him you need a set of head studs. its only ten of them. make sure you get new nuts to. studs are studs unless you have a cool head and then you have to buy there studs which Jeff sells Edited October 16, 2009 by jasons
SAVAGE420
No, you need the 8 Top case studs. As said above give jeff at F.A.S.T a call, hes a site sponsor here also. http://www.farmandsandtoys.com/ http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showuser=17548 PM or call For the head get a Noss head, Dave is a site spocer here too and i think he gives 10% off to members (dont quote me on that)so that helps and there a kick ass head anyways. I run one and love it We need to know your altitude for what dome to tell you but just going off if you are at sea level or close too, get the 21cc domes. Better yet, call Noss machine and ask dave what he recommends for domes size with his head and the fuel and altidude you are. Oh and by the way, good on you for buying a clymers man..lots of dumb ass's around here that NEED to spend the $30 and get one. Good luck man. Heres his site, remember hes a sponsor here so tell him your a member here. >>> http://www.nossmachine.com/ His name on here, give him a shout>>> http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showuser=
ClimbAnyHill
Yamaha didn't make the studs, they are universal. Match them up at your local hardware/machine shop and get em cheap!
Velislide
Sounds good, if I buy the head directly from him, I'll have him add the studs to my order, since I'll be needing new head studs also. Another question, not something you will be able to find in a Clymers manual, haha. What exhaust should I run? I'm looking for something that performs best mid-high, I'll be riding alot of trails that you can fly down pretty well. Sadly dont have any dunes or anything to ride, being in northern Minnesota, lol. I just missed out on some DG pipes that sold on Ebay for 38$ (went to a movie, totally forgot about the bid), so that sucks ass unless it wasnt what I was looking for, which would make me happy then. But yea, I'm looking at putting this quad in that little margin thats more powerful then stock, but yet more reliable as its using higher quality parts. I know the head will make more power, and be more reliable, thats a plus. Cylinders have a mild port, so shouldnt effect reliability much, yet make more power. Should I get the billet high flow water pump? Also any other weak points I can address on the quad, engine or chassis wise? I've been reading up on this thing everyday since I got it pretty much. Its an 1987 Banshee. Any tips will be appreciated, I have about 1600$ to dump into it atm. Heres how shes sitting, engines out at the shop I work at. The more I look at it, the more I want some new A-arms and a rear axle, so I can toss those nasty J-arms... It just sucks because a set of +X A-Arms are SPENDY, and I only have so much cash to work with. >.< Edited October 18, 2009 by Velislide

I guarantee that you will bust at least a couple of them trying to get them out. If they do not need replaced, I would think twice about it. Velislide
Hmm maybe I'll just clean them up, get the cylinders all done and just paint the studs and nuts after? Seal them up a lil from rusting?
Velislide
Just won a Pro Design coolhead off of ebay w/ 21cc domes, for 100$, looks to be in great shape. Do I need to use longer studs with this head, or do the stock ones work? Cant find a website for the head.
r/atvshee
They will need longer studs. As for pipes, you can't go wrong with a set of Toomey T-5's.
Velislide
Another question lol, is there any place I can get +2 or +3 A-Arms for my 87? Since it has J-Arms? I see alot of places say their A-Arms wont fit J-Arm style banshees, but is there companys that make A-Arms for these older quads? And would I need new shocks if I got A-Arms? Just ordered some Reeds, new boots, boost bottle, full stainless bolt kit for the banshee, and a couple more misc items. Whats the different between T5 and T6 Toomeys? And are FMF pipes any good for trail riding these beasts? If anyone has some pipes for 300$ or less with NO rust, give me a PM.
r/atvshee
Send AZCUSTOMQUADS a pm. He can fab a set of J-arms for you. People say that T-6's work best with unported motors and T-5's work with motors that have more work done to them. Either way, they are both great pipes to use. I dont know very much about FMF pipes though... But DON'T use a boost bottle, you wont see any gains from it and it'll probably end up causing problems later on.
