bode1
not trying to be a dick, but mechanics at the dealerships don't know SHIT from a cresent wrench, and a cresent wrench is what they will use to bend you over, they are thieves. You need to do a good leak down test, not with soapy water, but with plugs and a pressure guage. 6lbs for 6 minutes. if the dealerships idea of fixxing the lean problem is a 420 main jet in a stock stroke CPI piped bike, they are fuckin crazy. there is an underlying problem, not a crank, maybe a crank seal though. or leaky case. your pistons should have a little play side to side, but your crank rods shouldn't really. I agree with Dunerman. What are your jugs and crank worth? Sounds like you're paying a bit much to have your motor put together, and are these the same people that worked on it last time? If you're gonna go that route and you don't want to put it together yourself, sell the stuff you don't want and send it to one of the builders on here to put together. Nitrotate on here also made a DVD on how to work on your motor, I bought it and after watching and having a service manual, I don't feel so intimidated by the bottom end and plan to build my next one myself. Just sounds like you may be getting ripped off to me by someone that can't find your problem and get your bike to run right now.

I think I'm going to take my old cylinders and crank etc. to a friend of mine's shop who builds a ton of alky banshee's. I agree with you guys, this issue should have been noticed a long time ago and corrected. slapping huge jets in it isn't fixing the problem. I'm going by the dealership here in a bit and picking up my stuff and gonna take the motor out myself and drop it off 2morrow at the race shop to put the new crank and seals in. My friend said he'd trade me my cylinders and crank for the complete rebuild. I trust him and his builds have proven his work. I've done a lot of trading and swapping with him and have seen his stuff and his shop and its very well kept. Bottom line is, I'm running outta $$ for this thing and I'm trying to get a deal and good service at the same time. Its hard to do, but if I can't get both, I'll wait and save my $$. My thinking is if I can't diagnose the issue from the top end rebuild a few weeks ago, I'll just rebuild the entire motor with beefier parts so I know what I got and not shooting in the dark here. Thats what I've been doing for weeks and has got me absolutley no where!

ClimbAnyHill
Sounds like typical Yamadealer screwups! I wouldn't trust any of there work. No disrespect but if you don't have the skill or feel comfortable doing your own work simply send it to professional Banshee shop like one of our sponsors and get it down right. Gotta check everything down to spec. You can have a little rod play side to side but nothing up and down. Maybe it wasn't bored to spec & getting blowby the rings. Did you break it in before giving it hell on the dunes? Why alky on on basic compression and stock carbs?
