Boom...Back Fire

Recommended Posts

ok so i took it for a spin today...and its about 6 degrees Celcius....and so to counteract it being so col i richened up the fuel....

anyways i was taking it for a spin and then it back fired (i dont know but it made a noise), do you think that was detonation ? the fuel is like 87 octane and i know thats waaayy to low i should be running 93...so was it just a bit of detonation ?

Why in the world would you put 87 octane in your bike?? You need 91-93. More than likely it's detonating like a sombitch, I don't know if that would cause backfiring tho. Why did you richen up the fuel? The jetting needs to be changed for the weather, not the gas/oil ratio.

lol i richened the fuel becuase you run leaner in the cold...+ i dont have anyother jets ...

The reason you run leaner in the cold is because the the air is thicker than warm, thus causing more air intake and the same amount of fuel resulting in your lean condition. More oil in your gas will not fix that, you will just have smokey exhaust.

You need bigger jets to counter the larger amount of air coming through the carbs. It sounds like this is part of your problem along with your fuel octane. The lean condition will cause backfiring.

Buy bigger jets and drain that poo 87 octane out of your bike, before you start having bigger problems.
