banshee-mike
whats the best way to check the operating temperature and whats a safe temp.i have temp gun that i used for rc cars will this work?
papa_smurf49319
a temp gauge plumbed into the rad hose that goes to the head, a infared temp gun will also work and is nice because you can check the heat differences between the cylinders and the exhaust pipes. Also they have stick on temp stickers that seem to work ok. Lastly you can get a mr gasket cap that goes on the rad that will give you an idea also. papa_smurf49319
ya dont get a cheap sunpro gage, they dont last long at all. I went threw 5 of them and they kept warranting them and then i got my money back.
Snopczynski
The easiest way to put in a gauge is one of those mr. gasket thermocaps.

Some people had problems with the first gen ones. Ive had no problems with this second gen one. You have to run resistor plugs and run the single wire as far away from the coil and all other shee wiring as possible AND shield the wire with electrical shielding. The electrical noise for shees makes other shit mess up sometimes and reset. No problems with mine the way i had it. Takes readings every 2-3 seconds. I like it alot. Yes i have it in the lower hose, i wanted to run it in the upper hose but there was not really enough room in front of the cooler. Ill put it up on the top hose this winter when i put the new hoses on. The gauge housing and inline probe housing is billet and the gauge is under a piece of removable lexan and is sealed in with and o-ring. It runs off a lil watch batt so no need to splice into the harness. Edited October 1, 2009 by savage420

banshee-mike
i went ahead an ordered a esr gauge from fast.they only had silver damn it, but it will do.
jbooker82
The esr's are a nice gauge. I have their black one on my raptor. It might be hard to read on the banshee. You want to mount it in the top hose (front of the head to the top of the radiator.) You could mount it in that hose behind the gas tank shroud. That way you can read the gauge through one of the cut out holes.
Snopczynski
the thermocap is pretty accurate, its in the top of the radiator, and thats where the water from the head dumps into the radiator.
