AUSSIE BANSHEE
I have just bought a Trail Tech Vapor. I am chasing some advice for wiring, the instructions supplied are generic for a couple of models. My main question is regarding the RPM. Has anyone wired straight to the orange wire at the coil or is the wrapping of the ignition lead a better way to go. Any input will be greatly appreciated. rubberneck
I tried both ways and could never get the tach to be accurate. It was very erradic. I came to the conclusion that the banshee electrical system was just too damn noisy, and i was using resistor type plugs
yfz350rider
i ran the power off the yellow wire from the headlight switch. I tried several different ways to run the rpm wire, best luck i had was just takping it down on the sparkplug wire, i didnt wrap it, just ran it parallel with the wire maybe like 3 inches. My rpm read out seems pretty accurate, i just needed to switch the plugs to the BR8ES rather than B8ES. When running B8ES the computer would restart when i hit high r's. All in all i like the computer, the main feature that made me buy it was the temp readout and warning lights.
bansheesandrider
I tried to make a Vapor work on my Banshee and never got it to work, I even took it to Trail Tech and they couldn't get it to work either. When the water temp was below 100 degrees and i revved above 7000 the thing would do a full reset. Trail Tech tried hooking it up every way they knew of, they replaced all of the wiring and sensors and even the computer itself, but nothing worked. I had BR8ES plugs in it. I took it to them twice and between times I rode the bike and determined that reading the tach while riding was very difficult. When I took it to them the second time, I told them I didn't care about the tach, I just didn't want the thing to keep resetting. So they recommended I get the Vector model. I agreed to it and they GAVE me a Vector and let me keep the Vapor along with the spare sensors and wiring and one of their wire connector kits with a crimper. I am very happy with the Vector, since I mainly wanted to know temp., speed, and keep track of hours for maintainence. I found while riding the bike, you don't have time to watch the trail, tach, and shift lights, and you just end up shifting by feel/ear like I did without the tach. Since I still have the Vapor, I might try it on my wife's bike if I ever get time to put it on. Good luck.
Invader
i run mine off a 9 volt. I coiled the wire around the spark plug cap wire and it seems to work fine. but more interested in temp.
AKheathen
yah, i was really torn between the 2, because i wated the odometer features, but i want the tach more...
bansheesandrider
i run mine off a 9 volt. I coiled the wire around the spark plug cap wire and it seems to work fine. but more interested in temp. I tried the 9V trick also, it made no difference. It would even reset with the tach lead unhooked and removed from the bike. As far as the tach, I had a hard time reading it when I was just riding the bike around my open field behind the house, if I was in the dunes I figured that it would be more important to watch were I was going than looking at a tach. If I don't know when to shift it after riding it for 20 years, I should probably get rid of it. Now if I was drag racing it and thought a tach would improve consistency, I would go for it in a heartbeat. I think the Vector without the tach is great, but like I said, I mainly wanted a temp gauge, hourmeter for maintainence, and the speedo is great for speed runs on the flats at Florence.
