Another Shearer Thread

Recommended Posts

Just looking around for some small bore shearers and it looks like the best price is from sandtoyz unlimited. Just wondering how the chrome is, talked to the guy on the phone and he said its the closest thing to show chrome, and that it doesnt flake or peel. Just wondering if anyone has purchased from them before and if they were satisfied with there chrome. I think a chrome set from them is like 535 bucks.

Thanks Cody

Where does everybody buy there shearers and how much do they normally run?

Sounds like not many of you have gotten them from sandtoyz?

it depends on how picky you are on your chrome. I have 2 sets of shearers. 1 set about 2 years old and a set about 4 months old. The newer set is better, but I dont think i would call any of it show chrome even though thats what they call it. You will see scratches pits and the welds look OK at best IMHO. But i cant say as ive seen any pipe manufacture that really looks great. If you are concerned with having perfect chrome, i would order them from Cascade they get them raw then have their chromer do it. YOU WILL pay quite a bit more though. Just depends on if your priority is price or looks.

I did call sandtoyz and they said it was not show chrome but still did look damn nice, i could really care less if its chrome or not, but they said going bare would only save me like 20 bucks. I just dont want the chrome peeling or getting really rusty thats all. When i called sandtoyz i dont know who i talked to but the guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about, it would be freackin amazing if i could get the pipes cheaper than 525, because im a broke college student right now and just had my crank welded and bike ported by passion and an 1hour into riding it the nose of the crank broke off on the stator side and trashed my stator, might also need a new flywheel.

I would answer that two ways.

A. No. They go up and over the air filters (Pod type setup, actually very nice bends around them vs. a CPI or Toomey setup) and

B. With Shearer inframe pipes, you have no business running an air box.

They are top end drag style pipes, inframe or out of frame.

If you need an air box where you ride, chances are an inframe drag pipe is not the correct choice for your type of riding.

its not that i need an airbox, just kinda low on cash, and like the airbox setup. Im running a proflow with the lid off. My buddy has cpis and his airbox fit so thats kinda what i was hoping. Also what size should i go with for filters, any links, or recommendations?

IMO...you're wasting money on them.

By the rest of the mods in your sig...you're not really setup for them.

If you were a strict duner/drag racers, I'd say go for it.

It sounds like you're a trail rider that likes to play ride.

Pipes alone wont' make you faster...but they could very well hurt performance.

Also...you're running stock carbs.

All the exhaust in the world isn't going to help when you're restricting how much air/fuel you can get into the motor...

How aggressive is the port job?

I think, and correct me if I'm wrong for making this assumption, but you want to bolt on a set of pipes that make power to beat your buddy with CPIs?

If that's the case...you're doing it backwards. Pipes are the icing on the cake...not the main ingredients.

Not trying to sound like an ass...just telling it how it is and being honest.
