acroadam
I have a thrown rod bearing.. I took it to a local atv shop and the guy told me he would install a new crankshaft for 1500.. that includes parts and labor.... Is that a resonable price?... and is this something i can do on my own?
Mjv420
Pretty expensive to me but everyone has their opinions. Depending on the damage done you might have to rebuild to top end also.
lt250rfd
seems high priced, you could find a running motor for that price.
swrbansheeboy
to me $1500 to swap a crank is crazy, where are you? you can get a new crank for $350 r&i should run about $250... now if you need a bore and pistons then your talking an extra $300-$350. say $50-$75 for gaskets? so should be like $1100 ish? i cant say anything without seeing the engine but if it's just a crank swap then buy a manual and some threebond and get it done. if your in the portland oregon area i'll do it for $20 and a case of beer if you buy all the parts, gaskets and sealant...lol Edited September 6, 2009 by swrbansheeboy
spurdy
My buddy just bent a rod on his crank. He picked up a used stock crank for $100, seal kit for $45, gaksets for probably $30, sealant $7, honed cylinders himself (no bore needed) and I split the cases and swapped it, back together with cases and top end with pressure test for another $100! Granted, this was a "buddy deal" but damn! $1500? Like said earlier, you could buy a complete motor for that. I would tackle it myself and take my time. I hate paying other people to do shit, especially dealerships. They rob you blind and I can do better work then the ones ion my area, most have dumbasses working in their shops. Larry's Shee
A Clymers manual, Yamabond or three bond, gaskets, seals, tab lockwashers for clutch and sprocket (maybe), depending on runtime maybe rings. Sure ther's something else I forgot.

HJR, FAST, M&M etc. They should be able to match if not beat any other price you find. Just call and check around. Don't forget your flywheel puller. Probably be able to pick up everything at one stop. SP
