NickisGod Posted July 29, 2009 Report Share Posted July 29, 2009 because we all dont have the oppertunity to try before we buy i though id share my expirence with the trinity modded shift drum, shift pro kit and cascade shift star. the first question you ask is, do i need this? then you go looking for reviews and prices before you determine if its a go or a no. ill first start out with the cascade shift start witch can be bought from thier website for around $40 http://67.199.65.66/cascade_innovations/ne...%20shift%20star heres mine installed on my trinity shift cam. and another with the stock one and the modded one http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v632/unn...=0723091234.jpg i cant really speak on what these will do alone, but these really do make shiftting a shit ton easier and neutral a bit more easier to locate. in addition to the star you can also purchase the shift pro kit from cascade witch in combination with the shift star allows the shift segment the roll smooth without miss shifts. http://67.199.65.66/cascade_innovations/ne...%20shift%20star i dont have a picture of this installed on my bike, but all it is a ball bearing roller on a lighter spring that is optimized so you dont have to jam on the shifter. these go for around $70 but like i said in combination with the star you have the smoothist shift you can ask for in a bike. last but not least, when i was doing my build my shift drums bearing were shot. my only option was to replace it, but stock isnt enough to drive my passion for banshees. i locate one of these on ebay for $114 shipped to me this one is made by trinity, what it does is the oem shift drum dosnt have a bearing on the neutral cover side, making shifting a bit ruff due to friction. so trinity machines the non-bearing side down to press fit a bearing to further promote smooth shifting. take a look at this picture. oem vs modded you can purchase them from here, its the third item down http://www.trinityracing.com/prod_yam_banshee_parts.html i know this a bit extream and comes at a tottal of around $220 but i spare no expense when building my bike. if your sick of how you bikes shifts, cant find neutral, or keep miss shifting here a 3 products you can add to your wish list. when i was done assembling my engine i honestly though i forgot something because shifting seemed to easy. all 3 of these are great products!!!!! dont hesitate to buy Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you go to any atv swap meets or expos you can usually find the shift star mod for like $5 bucks versus the $38 that cascade charges. I actually met the guy who started the shift star mod and used to make it for cascade. He had A dozen of them left over from his days at cascade and sold them for $2 each. Just goes too show you if you keep those little things too yourself and paten it before you show it off, theres alot of money too be made for some real simple mods. Kudos on the write up! You will never get the ROI on such a thing and by the time you actually got a patent, that cat would be out of the bag so to speak. There's a lot of things out there that someone came up with in there garage and people like cascade for instance get wind and market it befor the real person that came up with it gets to do anything with it. dajogejr Posted August 5, 2009 Report Share Posted August 5, 2009 I can get my drum cut and have a bearing installed on the end. I really contemplated it on my last teardown over the winter....but with an override, I've never had a shifting problem. I Understand...it's a drag race thing....the override that is. I think the Yakkey shift drum had the bearing if I'm not mistaken. Removing dogs from your gears (every other) can help with shifting as well, but that's not something you do at home in a vice with an angle grinder...you need the right machine to do that. If there is one thing the Honda guys have that we don't, it's nice and easy shifting bikes out of the crate. I used to cut my own shift star for years. HJR told me that the shift drum bearing is useless on an overide, the overide just shifts so well without it. :thumbsup: guess when I get my overide I will be selling my drum then. Since you already have it...don't. I wouldn't pay much for the bearing mod if I knew I was getting an override...but, use it since you have it. There is a chance that it'll work just fine, as in your case. But if I'm cleaning out a bike on the line and it jumps into gear...or I'm making a pass and it jumps gears, there goes that race.
