stokes77
You've got to split the cases to do it properly. There is alot of info on the forums about it if you search or you could buy a Clymer manual and it would explain everything perfectly. 00tbanshee
like was said split the cases.then you have to take a split bearing puller and pull it off the crank.to install it you set the crank in the freezer for a couple hrs and put the bearing in the oven to get it somewhat hot and the bearing pretty much will slide right on the crank with out to much tapping with a hammer
rumlesj1
ya i had the cases split already, i just dont know how to get it off the crank. can the bearing be removed without taking the crank and pistons / cylinder apart? i am triing to do this job as in expensive as i can because my buddy just spent all his money buying this bike so we are triing to fix it as cheap as we can while triing to do it properly. Larry's Shee
Correct and cheap don't usually go together. I could think of several caveman methods to get brg off, IF I did I would get all kinds of hell on here. Regardless, you still have to use oven/freezer method to put new on. Might be easier to handle bare crank, only talking couple gaskets. My .02. Machine shop or good auto parts store might pop it off cheap. 350scabarat
Make a bearing puller. Thats what i did. Take a pipe thats id is the bearings od. Now cut it about 4 to 5 inches. Then cut it in half so u hav 2 half circles. . If u know what i mean. . .now get a flat square metal plate about a quater inch thick and size of the bearings diameter by the bearings diameter. Im nt sure what size the bearing is but u gana hav a flat plate with 2 half circle pipes welded on it. Itl be a pipe again but hav cuts 180 degrees from eachother. So u can flex open and close the thing to fit over the bearing. Now if u slip it ova the bearing, the part that touches the crank web, u should tac weld it and grind it down so when u tighten it over the bearing there will be small bumps going in behind the bearing to grip it. Ok when thats done u must dril a hole in the midle of the plate. Any size. What u gana be doing is u gana weld a nut over the hole and a bolt with a sharpend point is gana screw in. So now u jst pop it over the bearing, tighten it with a hose clamp. And screw the bolt in making sure it hits the midle of the crank shaft. Then it comes off. . .hope i explaind proply. . . 350scabarat
I jst read that nd one part ddnt make sence. . .the part u weld. U shouldnt weld it to the crank. U weld kindof on the inside of the pipe . . So it makes an edge. Then grind it so its thin enough to fit behind the bearing.
toolman
Buy a bearing separator at an auto parts store or Harbour freight has them for 20.00$. Makes it real easy. Use the method mentioned above and it go's back togather easier than it comes apart.
dajogejr
I wouldn't caveman a crank bearing off. I'd take it to a shop with a press...make it easy on yourself.
