Vito's 404 bb problems

Recommended Posts

Possibly an air leak. What domes, compression and squish do you have?

Edit: ditch the boost bottle and get a stock crossover tube.Better yet,get a billet intake to match that cylinder!

I dont know the comp or squish i bought it with the head off. But i did notice that the head gasket was only 66mm and the bore is like 67.86 and the head has been milled to 68mm.

Alright before i ramble on,are these the vito's bb sleeper cylinders or is this the monoblock? I thought it was the 404 monoblock but from what you stated about the head i'm assuming stock head so these would be the 68 bore sleeper cylinders?

That 66 head gasket isn't the correct gasket for them cylinders.66 is still considered "small bore" . You need a 68mm head gasket, vitos has them. I would toss the head back on and check your squish and compression and go from there.Has the head been shaved? It could also be warped....

I havn't personally ran this particular set up but i hear good things on them. Some people arn't a fan of vito's products but i had a 4 mill monoblock cylinder pushing in the range of over 100 hp.I wouldn't hesitate to run another vitos cylinder, i was happy with it.

ok so i just did a comp test and squish.......comp both sides was only 100psi and the cylinders and pistons dont look scored......when i went to do a squish test the piston would jam then i listened closely and i can hear the piston hitting the head.

i have build several 250r race engine and my snowmobile has a turbo so im not green when it comes to engines but this one is baffeling

squish is too tight man.Did this guy even run this set up or just slap it together and sell it? You need a thicker base gasket. And 100 psi is very low.May be time for some new rings too

kool thats what i was thinking this guy had i built and it never ran proper from the get go........it has done this several times for him. Now i own it sooo im gonna try to get it ripping. The funny thing is you can still see the cross hatch in the cylinders and there is no head damage. how thick of a base gasket should i get and where would i get one from?

first find out what squish clearance you have in there take your piece of soldier and mike it out you will want to probably run close to a .040-.045 squish. are the cylinders ported at all? more than likely they are so anyways find your squish and we can tell you what gasket to go with

what is mike it out? and does it matter that i did the test without the head gakt on? also if the head was hitting wouldnt that mean there was like 0 squish?

you must do the squish test w/the head gasket on and base gasket on!! just as it would be in running order. also, it wouldn't necessarlily mean that you would get a reading of "0" w/o the head gasket, as the piston's crown edge doesn't come flush to the cylinder deck. usually around .017" deck height.

LOL this engine must be a little messed then cause the edge of the pistons do come right to the edge and maybe even a bit over........this builder must not have know what he was doing. i think im gonna start from the base up.

the reason i cant do a squish test with the head gskt is it is a 66mm on and the bore is 68 so the gasket sticks into the bore.
