setting alcohol carbs back to gas

Recommended Posts

I bought a set of 35mm PWK carbs off ebay and they didn't tell me they were set up for alcohol. I believe they are alcohol because the main jet hole diameter is gigantic and one float is cut off. I don't know what all is involved in setting carbs up for alcohol so I don't know what I need to undo to set them back up on gas.

I think your screwed man lectrons are the only carbs you can switch back to gas I think once the work is done its done

That's not good. I can always sell them or contact the seller to see about returning them but I want to make sure that they can't be reversed before I jump the gun.

I'm not really sure what the dump tube is. What exactly is it and where can I find it in the carb? I looked around on the carbs and did not see anywhere that appeared to be drilled out, unless they did a really clean job.

Is the thread pattern the same for stock mikuni jets and stock pwk jets? If so I can screw in a mikuni to see if in fact it has been drilled out. It doesn't appear to have been but I've never messed with Keihin carbs so I have nothing to compare it to. The only reason I say they look like alky carbs is because the jet hole is 2.5mm in diameter at least and one float has been removed.

Not sure on the threads deal. Find yourself a drill bit or something that is .125" (1/8") in diameter and see if it fits. If I remember that is a common size that the dumps are drilled to. That or .120", I can't remember for sure.

The thread size for the main is definitely an 1/8" hole. So I'm guessing they don't make jets for to work in the 1/8" theads with the proper jet size.

Not the thread size, but the piece of brass above where the main would screw in is what I am talking about. i.e. the size of the hole in the main jet not the threads. So the size of the hole through the dump tube. I'm not very good at explaining things let me go find a diagram.

The part that is drilled out and not changeable in a PWK is 37 in this drawing of a Mikuni TM carb.

Yea, it's an 1/8" there too. It's an 1/8" almost all the way to the top of the brass tube. I can fit an 1/8" bit up to about a 1/4" from the top. So in other words, the bit fits in the tube and then stops about 1/4" from going all the way through the tube. They also have EGN needles. So they're useless on gas. That sucks, I guess I'll sell them. I got a decent deal on them so if I can get what I paid for the I'll be satisfied. Thanks a lot for your help man!

If they are in fact pwks than you are stuck with them being alky carbs. Once they are set up for alky there is no going back to gas on these carbs. As stated they are drilled and obviously you cant put the material back in. Contact the seller for a refund and/or open a claim stating they're not as described or just list them back up for sale staing what you know about them
