Overheating and loosing fluid

So my bike was running awsome with the stock head. I thought what the hell lets put on a new head. I put on a Trinity IV head with 19cc domes. Now for some weird reason I am loosing about 16oz of fluid for every 4 hours of riding, NOT GOOD. I noticed that when I am riding hard it will leak out of the overflow. I removed the bottle and it is coming from the overflow hose. Any ideas where to look. It does not leak anywhere externally, only out the hose. Any way to check and see if it is leaking into the cylinders without removing the head.

Your dome o-rings are probably not sealing; either one of them got pinched during install, the mating surfaces weren't clean, or you had an o-ring just fail on you.

Either way it sounds like you have a compression leak, pop the head off and check out the o-rings. Get a new set and reinstall the head. Do not reuse the o-rings, better safe then sorry.

So what your thinking is that it is leaking into the cylinder. I might just mil the head and put it back on. I am sure the bike is running rich.

That is exactly what i'm thinking and you don't want to run it like that for too long or it can do some damage to the piston.

When you put the head on did you put it through a couple of heat cycles and re-torqued the head after it was fully cooled off?

No need to put the stock head back on, just find out what is causing the problem and fix it.

If you were running it lean for that long you would of had a good case of detonation to go with the heat and your plugs would most likely be backing out. :ninja:

I noticed that there is a little build up of dirt and oil around the spark plugs where they go into the head. Would that be consistant with it running lean?

No that wouldn't. But you didn't reuse your stock headgasket did you? Only use the O-rings that come with the head. And I know on all the aftermarket heads I have used I have had to do 2-3 heat cycles to get the head to quit leaking.

You went from a stock head to 19cc domes?

Are you running higher octane gas?

And I agree...you pinched an oring.

If it's leaking in the combustion chamber, you're asking for a blown motor.

If it's just leaking up a stud or through a water jacket...it needs to be replaced soon...or it'll overheat and break/warp parts.

Does anyone have a copy of the torque order on the head. I want to make sure I did it correctly.
