would you buy a fuel injection system

Recommended Posts

Ok, Ive been doing research and discovered a way to make a fuel injection system for a banshee motor no matter size. 35mm throttle body and up. this is a single part,. not double. Mine is going to be 39mm. The intake will also be a flow tested style not so tight as a trinity style Im going to make out of welded aluminum or fiberglass. The harness will all be changed out, programable cdi to tune to your own specs. This will eliminate jetting issues, carb sync issues, fitment with larger carb/filter setups in the way of levers and pipes, better fuel economy, great atomization, and better over all performance. Im wondering how many people would pay for something like this and how much you would be willing to pay honestly. Once I get this all together, I might think about making a large production of em, but I want to see if its worth it. If it does well, Ill be doing it for many other quads too. along with this, Id like to make an updated electronic servo powered PV kit and/or mechanical for these too on the same harness.

There is a shop in Kansas that has been making kits for a long time. I think someone posted about him on here not too long ago. I think he charges around $900 and if it was a little less I think you would see them around more. I know I would get one for around $450.

well if its a complete kit, that replaces the following:

intake manifold - $150

Carbs - $300

CDI - $250

then i think that $900 is not too bad, if it does indeed do what you say it does.

i know there is a guy over on the rz350 forums who has been running a microsquirt system for years with great success.

That shop would be owned by Kevin Gigot and is called GP performance.

I think he is retailing them for around a grand.

I could put a setup like this together myself, but it would cost about what GP wants for their Motec based setup. The hard ware is not really the problem with this issue, it's the tuning and development.

Most of the folks with the exception of MRD and GP would be better off selling a spray bottle with gas in it.........

Im guestimating about 7-750. But I dont know yet. thats not with a pv tho. Id hardly make anything selling them that cheap. if someone already makes them then I guess I will just make one myself. Im most certain they will need tuned, every last one. thats not something you can just bolt on.

Injection systems are only worth the amount you put into them

The bulk of your budget is going to go into an ecu, harness, injectors, throttlebody, fuel rail, lines, fuel pump and fuel regulator, and in some cases an ignition.

None of that will be cheap, and you'll still need a palmtop to program your fuel map. Then consider that no motor is going to be the same so you will need to schedule dyno time with a load cell dyno and somebody who knows what they are doing.

I spoke to him about three months ago in length about the whole costs of this as well as other items needed.

The total is more like 1800 for everything including getting it all dialed in just right.

The 900 bucks just buys the system itself and not the battery and bracket for the battery, the wiring harness that would have to be made, the computer work to dial it in and teh dyno runs during this whole process.

Im saving pennies for it two years from now when I get all my other crap bought for the new Banshee I have now.

With fuel prices rising the cost now would be around 1900 bucks due to the fuel cost of traveling to Kansas from Denver.

That sounds pretty close........ I think the last time this was discussed with Kevin, the pricing only included the hardware and the owner would have to come up with their own charging system. :geek:

Kevin also stated that he races the Pikes peak race here in Colorado and has been running the fuel injection flawlessly for over 12 or 13 years If I remember correctly.

He is finishing up a race bike for a customer that runs on E-85 and the dialing in/mapping of that system has taken a few months of dyno runs at his shop, but he states that he will eventually get it correct and have another batch of calibrated data for the laptop he uses on the setup.

With the high output stater, timing plate, bracket, battery and custom wiring harness you would have to come up with, he stated to me that for a gasoline ran machine with no Nitrus or no alcohol based engine.....its awesome for reliability.

Other high performance motors he has to do custom maping for that same reliability.

For those of you that already have the high output stater and battery set ups on your banshees then the cost for the fuel injection would be alot less.

It would be just the long drive to his shop in fuel costs getting there....
