no packing in exhaust!

Recommended Posts

NOPE, but it will be a bit louder than if you had it in and if your bike is jeted to run with silencers w/packing then you may have to make some small changes. Drag pipes don't run silencers at all they still run quite well, if being necked down in to that lil ity bity silencer pipe dose not provide enough back pressure then i'm not sure a chunk of fiberglass will make that big of difference.

packing = lowend. drag pipes don't need it because they are all mid-top

Not exactly true.. there is no power gains between silenced and stingers. People prefer the stingers because they're cheaper and it makes it easier to hear your shift points over other bikes while your racing.

Most of the time you'll see a power drop from not using packing because your changing the tuned length of the stingers.

well it feels like she hasnt lost any power!! im usually riding her fast and hard and she seemed like she was a lil more powerful...i dont care for bottom end power, i like to have her screaming aahha.....i figure that it would make her run leaner, as there is less restriction...

every time i hear that, and not just banshees, first thing i think is what actually happens 90% of the time. less low end makes the top end seem better, when it's actually about the same. the other 10% is when the exhaust is tuned through sheer dumb luck, or the stock exhaust is severely restricted stock, like an asian econobox with a bolt-on muffler.

X2 !!

Additionally, you will lose power every single time when your silencer is NOT packed because you are creating more turbulence in the silencer without packing. There is now a huge void in the silencer behind the perforated core of the silencer stinger and that will really jacking things up. Sounds like someone just wants an excuse to make a bunch of noise.

To reiterate, there is not "increase" in flow performance without packing. Actually just the opposite. If the air leaving the pipe was sonic, it might not matter but sonic air in an engine only occurs just outside the exhaust port and then quickly cools to become sub-sonic again.

ahha yes, ill admit that i love the sound of her now, with out the packing!!!! and im willing to believe that it may just be this increased sound that has gotten my heart pumping faster and my brain believeing more power!!! hah BUT she certainly doesn't feel less powerful, i guess that the power drop if any isn't very significant...

what if there was just a straight pipe comming from the headers? what would that do?
