how good are K&T motors?

Recommended Posts

im curious to how ppl like k&t motors, i got a guy wanting to trade me a built banshee motor . hot rod crank, billet clutch basket, k&t dune ported motor, billet water impeller, 20cc domes, pro design cool head, v force 3 reeds and 35mm pwk carbs and cpi inframes. i got a passion 4 mill motor around 70-80hp motor but its strictly just for dragging and it's having a hard time shifting and sick of wrenching on it. so basically i'm curious how fast k&t motors are and if id be happy with it.

You ever talk to Jim about the problems you are having ??

I'm sure that he would rather help you with the problem you are having rather than hear from other people that you are not happy with his motor.

I have a Passion 4mil and not having any problems with shifting and it does not have an override.

Also, is he wanting to trade his motor for your motor ?? If so, I would be asking myself why that guy wants to trade his K&T motor for a Passion motor.

well because his k&t is just a stock stroke it's not a 4 mill.it has a hot rod crank but its still stock stroke.

something is out of adjustment then it should shift.

yea my buddy took it down the road about 5 times and it's ripping, then he pulled it in the garage and we noticed my problems are few seals are bad and its letting all my tranny fluid leak and the seal is bad in the shifter because there's a tons of play.

JMHO, I know K&T does a lot of good work and has some very fast motors. I grew up where everyone had a K&T bike and always wanted one. However, I felt like in the last few years you have to be the right guy that's dropping some serious $$$$$ if you want them to put the work in your cylinders. I've never seen a K&T duner without 35's on it. With that said I've raced a lot of K&T "duners" on my stock carb bike and run right with if not just ahead and I have a lot more usable power for duning. Bottom line, their motors I feel are hit and miss sometimes, assuming the motors are tuned and set up right.

they probably are hit and miss. at little sahara last week i raced a dude with same mods as me but he had v-forces, out of frame pipes and more paddles, i would beat him by 3 bike lengths. and i was only able to pull 3rd gear maxed out because i had the wrong gearing. he was pulling 4th hard. he said it had drag porting. and thats the first time ive ever been there. thats his riding spot and he said his bike was tuned perfect. i know mine wasn't tuned properly
