I hope to make the trip this fall. Don't want to go any later than September. Thought about sometime around Labor day. I assume it will be packed? Can decent camp sites still be had? I've got an uncle in Boise that we will probably meet up with. How far away is it for him? Illinos has stickers but I don't have one. You need them to ride in state owned parks. I think they are like $15. Would it be easier to get those when I go out? I run AVGAS in my Banshee right now. I was thinking about swapping my domes out and running pump gas. My builder doesn't really recommend it for big dunes. Where does everybody get gas out there? Anyplace close so I'm not gonna be a mini fuel tanker? The flags I have right now are one step up from bicycle flags. Do I need something different up there? Is there a daily fee to get in and ride? Any recomendations on where to stay? We'll probably have 2 trucks and 2 trailers. Like to be as close to the big dunes as possible but not paying a million dollars either. I'm sure there are other things I have questions about but this is all I can think of. Sorry to drag it out but it's around 27 hours one way and I want all my ducks in a row before I attempt it. Thanks.

It should be packed on Labor day, but it really surprised me being up there for Memorial day because it wasn't really crowded at all. I have been up there on regular weekends when it has been more packed.

The best place to camp "IF" you don't need hook ups for a trailer is Oasis. Its $27 a night. All the other camp grounds are around $50.

I'm not sure but I think Boise is about 3 hours away.

The sticker thing is a coin toss. I have never friends who get them. Personally I have never been messed or seen anyone who has but I do have Utah registraion on my predator. But at the sametime I don't even have a VIN on my new banshee... lol

I'm not sure where you can get AVgas up there but all three stores up there sell VP110 5 gallon drums. But they are $55 a drum so its expensive if you buy it there.

The flags really don't matter as long as they are about 6' off the ground.

There is no daily fee, you just ride out of the campground and go for broke.

The best place to stay depends on when you like to go to sleep... lol. Egin lakes is good if you like it quiter, its directly across from Thunder mtn but more pricey. And Oasis can get rowdy sometimes but costs half as much and its about half a mile ride to Thunder mtn.

Hey that helps. Thanks. I'm thinking about the pump gas deal but not sure. I think my uncle has a generator but it would be nice to have facilities. Do they have places with showers and stuff? I think I would rather not be a million miles from the big hills. 1/2 mile doesn't sound too bad though. What big towns are close to there? I'm not even really sure where it's at in the state.

You can shower at Oasis for like a buck.

The ride over from Oasis to Thunder isn't too bad. My friend rode his 10mil k&t bike from there over to Thunder no problem. But he did trailer it over to Choke Cherry. But there isn't any camp grounds by Choke either.

Rexburg is about a 20 minute drive from Oasis. They have walmart, albertson's and a few parts stores if you need a few little things. There is also Rexburg motorsports a few miles down the road and they carry quite a few atv parts.

We are staying at Sand Hills Resort in June. It is $22 a night for tent spot that include water, power, Trees, and free showers. When I called Oasis they where $33 for tent spots, no water and no power. We will be up there the third week in June and I will be hoping to get back up there in September for riding and hopefully some archery hunting. Is there other places to get race fuel that is not VP?

Just so you know you can't get any further away from the big dunes than Sand hills. Its on the very edge of the dunes on the east side. You won't make it on one tank of gas from there to Choke Cherry which is on the far west side. (On a stock banshee much less a built banshee) If you plan on riding out there you will have to have a fuel mule or trailer your banshees over there.

Oasis costs $17 to camp with a tent. $26 for a trailer and like $45 for full hook ups. It costs one dollar for a shower.

I'm on the Oasis sight right now looking around. Looks like a decent enough place. Close to some decent stuff looks like. We could set up my uncles camper and then use my truck and trailer to go to the other side if we wanted to check out the other hills. They are pretty much open for Labor Day too. That might be the place for me.
