redcougy
So it turns out I need a new Top End. Its gonna require a new bore size, currently its stock 64mm Bore. Any recommendations on where to get this bore job done and to what size I should have it bored over? Their is an outfit online that claims to bore your cylinders to the next workable size and send you the complete top end kit after you have sent them the jugs for $299. Is this a good deal or should I shop around and where? any input would be appreciated.

I personally have had quality work and customer service with F.A.S.T and herr juggs. just my opinion though.
2001Stroker
Take the cylinders to a local machine shop. Get them to tell you how much it needs bored out to clean it up. Buy a new topend kit. Bring the pistons to the machine shop, and get them to bore it to the size of the pistons. Just make sure to tel them to deburr the port holes, so they don't catch the rings. Any local machine shop should be able to bore them for you, for no more than $15 per hole. Plus, you don't have to pay shipping, nor do you have to wait around a couple weeks to get them back. TwistedSheeRida
i wouldnt bring it to any machine shop and ill tell you right now there arent a lot of machine shops that will take in jobs off the side. Bring it to a machine shop that actually bores motors for small engine. Plus you have to retool a bridgeport to bore a jug good luck finding a machine shop that will do that. That might be just in your area. There are probably 100 machine shops around here, and most of them will do any size motor. 2 or 4 stroke. My local machinist charges $35 per hole for a bore and champfer and that's half the price of the other shops in the area. Guess shit really is more expensive on the west coast....... swrbansheeboy
i'm right there with ya! i use twister for all my machine work and louie charges $45 a hole, he also doesnt re-tool his bridgeport to do them either. he has a single purpose machine that only does bores, he's also been doing atv engines for 25 years and knows what needs to be done and what doesnt. you can take your stuff to anyone you want but if you decide to take it to your local corner store car mechanic and get it back with a crooked bore and no chamfers on the ports you will know why it only cost you $15 a hole while your sitting somewhere waiting to get towed back because you caught a ring and tossed up your top end... i'd stick with an actual atv shop that knows what there working with.... 2001Stroker
Ain't no corner store car mechanic machine shops around here. These are 30 and 40 year old shops, that do nothing but engines all day, everyday. Most of them are ran by large companies, with the most high tech shit on the market. I've never had a crooked bore come from any machine shop around here. You can pay $45 all you want. I'll pay $30 less, and get the same perfection.
