blowit
if you could only do one for a drag bike which one would you gain the most from ......... stroking a motor 5mm or boring it 5mm ? Is that really a question.   B
2001Stroker
Stroke it 4mm. A 5mil is a waste. You have to trench your cases, and don't gain much at all, over the 4mil.
stroking
i used 5mm as an example and you do NOT have to trench for a 5mm i wanted to know which will give the BIGGEST gain..........STROKING OR BORING

Who does a 5mm stroke anyway? Pipes, carbs, reeds, track, budget, goal??
Ieat4strokes
ive seen people being told a million times boring does nothing on a stock cylinder but waste the life of your cylinder. stroke it with a nice port job and you'll be happy. just my .
AKheathen
simple question; simple answer. stroke it. stock is already at the end of the bore/stroke spectrum.
FireHead
Stroke it 4mm. A 5mil is a waste. You have to trench your cases, and don't gain much at all, over the 4mil. That's not true..... A Twister 5mil crank will go into most OEM cases without trenching them.... :geek:
FireHead
Where do you want the GAIN? Who does a 5mm stroke anyway? Pipes, carbs, reeds, track, budget, goal?? Knowing your goal is a good thing........... In the two stroke world there are two conceptual ways to make power: Piston speed and/or combustion chamber volume. I am a piston speed type of guy, so I would be looking at a small bore with alot of stroke, or a big bore with not much stroke. The OEM Banshee config. does not support a bore large enough without extensive modification to make sense, so if you were to do just one thing, adding stroke is how to get the job done. 2001Stroker
Ok. Calm the hell down. The only person I seen on here with a 5mil, had to trench. I'm guessing it just depends on the pin size?????
stroking
Iwas on a website that offers alot of different engine combos and all with the stock cylinders are stock bore with lots of port work but different crank sizes they have a 4mil stock bore 5mil stock bore 7mil stock bore even a 10mil stock bore on stock cylinders and FYI hotrod makes a 5mil that will drop right in. stroking
Where do you want the GAIN? Who does a 5mm stroke anyway? Pipes, carbs, reeds, track, budget, goal?? this is with ALL things being = except one has been bored 5mm and one stroked 5mm.........which would show the most gain on a dyno ????? FireHead
Ok. Calm the hell down. The only person I seen on here with a 5mil, had to trench. I'm guessing it just depends on the pin size????? I don't think any of the crank manufacturers offer a larger pin size......... If the guy had to trench for a 5mil, he probably had a mismatched set of cases or they were tweaked. You should only have to trench for a 5mil if your cases are junk.
FireHead
and FYI hotrod makes a 5mil that will drop right in. ...............and no, they don't. Hot Rods makes a 5mm longer rod crankshaft which puts the rods at 115mm in length. The only stroker crankshaft they make is a 4mil. :ermm:
blowit
this is with ALL things being = except one has been bored 5mm and one stroked 5mm.........which would show the most gain on a dyno ????? Well, is that on stock ports, mild ports, or highly modded ports? That will make all the difference of how each performs. Brandon
